2,089,351 Reasons to Put Down the Keyboard After a 26 Hour Shift [FR status report]

Posted on 09/24/2008 9:38:37 AM PDT by John Robinson

Edited on 09/24/2008 10:19:29 AM PDT by John Robinson. [history]

Well, the good news first. After installing three very sweet machines and new networking equipment, FR is geared up for the onslaught of traffic we anticipate during this election cycle. All that is left is some tuning and bringing online another database server.

The bad news: I goofed horribly this morning and wiped the articles table, a file that stores crucial information for displaying articles.

Fortunately, the data is backed up. I'm working on restoring it, but it may possibly take the rest of the day to bring it back fully.

So don't touch that dial!

UPDATE: Restored a couple million old articles. Still working on the most recent, which need to be restored from incremental backups (very slow!)

Thank you for all you do, to keep us up and running.

LOL, yes it was a shock to see my threads wiped away, according to the notice...........

Banned at my age...........Yes, I am laughing now.

You do give a lot to keep us all happy, for that I am thankful.

May God grant you a couple of extra blessings, and make you smile again.

Glad everything is back. Not to minimize their importance but why do you have to restore the articles table? Sometimes a good clean out is needed. They'll build back up with new ones in no time.

The Debates

No one is really talking about the debate on Friday thanks to the financial crisis, but perhaps even more important than the hourly watching of the U.S. stock markets, Friday’s first presidential debate could play a huge role in determining who is to become the next president. If you take a very-high overview of the presidential polls since at least August, Team Obama has lead the way most of the time, except for a GOP convention bounce that looked convincing, but fell apart within one week. Since the beginning of the month, Obama’s lead has been small (1-4 points), but...
Urgent: We must mount a “MASSIVE NO BAILOUT” campaign now.

Just as was done on the “Immigration Bill” we have to make noise, if this country has to go “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” (which is a lie as it wont happen) then so be it. Perhaps you haven’t seen this? Bubble Markets Inventory Tracking Where illegals were buying houses and flipping them back and forth pocketing the money each time with their no money down loans? 12 Quartz Ln., Ladera Ranch, CA 92694 —05/2004: purchased for $421,500. —06/2005: purchased for $530,000 by Angelica, associate of “The Family.” —06/2005: Angelica immediately deed the title to Janneth. —01/2006: sold to Saul the...
Barack Obama’s Tax Returns: Lingering Questions

Earth Hour interfered with income tax preparation at our house last night, but we are pleased to report that we won’t be attempting to characterize political contributions as charitable contributions on our US-1040. Barack and Michelle Obama did just that a couple of years ago when they deducted a $13, 107 political contribution to the Congressional Black Caucus as charitable contribution on their 2006 tax return. Deducting political contributions is strictly prohibited by the IRS, and I am still scratching my head about this incredible gaffe by two Harvard educated lawyers knowledgeable about both law and politics. Additionally, the return...
George Soros warns ‘superboom’ is over

The world economy is at the end of a “super-boom” in asset prices and debt which has lasted since the end of the Second World War, billionaire investor George Soros has warned. Speaking in a BBC documentary, Mr Soros said that at the heart of the financial crisis was the culmination of a 60-year-old boom in leverage, the result of which will be a far deeper downturn than many expect. He also warned that the financial services industry now faces a painful crunch. “I think that the financial industry will have to shrink... and of course the indebtedness of the...
Gold necklace found is ‘oldest in Americas’

This elegant gold necklace looks as if it was only made yesterday. In fact the nine inch necklace is four thousand years old and marks the oldest known worked gold artifact ever uncovered in the Americas, also representing the earliest evidence of an elite emerging among the simple people who lived there. Is this gold necklace the first evidence of elite society in the Americas In short, it marks the very early steps towards the appearance of royalty in the region, along with politics and luxury. The nine bead necklace, found near Lake Titicaca in southern Peru, is described by...

I have a neighbor down the street with an Obama sign in his yard.

I wanted to put a sign in his yard asking him what he does that makes him rich enough to be able to afford the Obama tax plan.

Well...I tried to respond on the thread where you posted the string behind the steering wheel picture, but it was locked. I just have one comment about that picture:

If he'd listen to the old bag sitting next to him and stop and ask for directions, he wouldn't have any problems.

Sympathies from another who’s been there, done that, still waiting for the T-shirt.

At times during a long haul such as yours I find it’s more productive to actually go home and get some sleep rather than try to push through to the end.

“if recovery takes 42 hours, was that data really necessary?”

Similar to what I told myself a few years ago when I threw out 3 large boxes of unlabled 3 1/2” floppy disks.

“If I havent used them... I wont miss them!”

John- a thread wasn’t necessary- you could just ask FDR to go on tv and make an announcement ;)

Thank you so much for the hours of work, it’s appreciated by countless Americans.

I have that recipe, I am actually afraid to try it.

I had it at one time. I deemed it a public health hazard and destroyed it before anyone got hurt.
