Presidential candidate Barack Obama told a Wisconsin audience today that he will slash federal spending on contractors by 10 percent, the Associated Press reported.
The cuts are part of his plan to revive an economy battered by turmoil on Wall Street and the housing market.
Obama was speaking in Green Bay, Wis. He said the $700 billion bailout plan proposed by President Bush and Congress is forcing a new look at federal spending.
"The only way we can do all this without leaving our children with an even larger debt is if Washington starts taking responsibility for every dime that it spends," Obama said.

Barry will cut the contractors and then hire them as full time government employees, thus increasing the size of the fed.

President Bush increased the number of Gov't contractors in an attempt to get people off Federal payrolls.
Obama wants them back on because he can see where Bush's plan is heading long term.

What contractors? I couldn’t find out if he meant defense contractors (a typical democrat scapegoat) or perhaps the contractors who built the bridge that collapsed on I-35 (yes, let’s force them to cut corners even more so more bridges will collapse twenty years after Obama’s tenure in office).
I guess community organizers are worth every penny they get, but contractors are lazy, bitter, political hacks who don’t really contribute anything.
Unbelievable. A simplistic, across-the-board approach to waste like a ten percent cut. Typical of a idealist who has never never had a real job or had to make a payroll or build anything worthwhile. The guy sounds like Chairman Mao.
This is where Obama’s “army” comes into play.
That was my question. Obama has a very difficult time getting specific about anything, and when he does, he contradicts himself all over the place.
In general, government contractors do much of the work that federal employees should be doing but don't or won't.
He must be in trouble if he is saying stuff like this...
More precisely, full time government union employees. With Democrats, its always about doing what is in their best interests and government employees unions are an adjunct of the Democrat Party.

There's a reason that infamous 'gubmint purchased Hammer' costs $700.00, 'my friends'.
Exactly. I was a contractor to the EPA. The OSCs (fed employees) did squat; I never even saw one suit up. And then they bitched about their $60k salaries which were twice what we were paid.
Let’s see, now. This $700 BILLION works out as $2,300 or so for every man, woman, and child in these United States. This is immediate additional debt. So if this debt were divided up, and each person were to be given the proceeds of the repayment of the loan created by the debt incurred, then EVERYBODY would have a direct interest in how well the economy was managed. This assignment could not be traded away, but it could be passed on to heirs, according to existing law concerning inheritances. It would be repaid into an individual’s account, and NOT to the individual themselves, placed in an ASSIGNED account, and treated as a non-taxable asset. This asset would grow with the repayment of the debt, and eventually could be more than the original amount of the dollar figure at the beginning.
Naturally, this could NEVER be a fund to which the US Treasury would be custodian, nor could Congress EVER be able to lay claim to it, or use it as collateral to fund further schemes of any kind.
It would be an excellent basis for creating a retirement account for everybody, NOT tied to Social Security.
I still want Chris Dodd and Barney Frank frog-marched out of Congress and slapped with criminal indictments, with a potential penalty of life in prison.
This is to increase union membership not to save money. With benefits it will cost more money.

Obambi needs to take responsibility for “HIS” $740 Million in earmarks $1 million of which went to Michelle’s employer!
That must have been some time ago. Current DC area salary for a mid-range GS-12 is $80,000. However, GS 13 (avg $95K) and GS 14 (avg $111K) grades are more typical. You can go to opm.gov and check the 2008 salary tables for your particular area, but they're all high.
