House Democrats will allow a quarter-century ban on offshore oil drilling to expire next week.
Currently, drillers are banned from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, but the moratorium on oil drilling will officially end when congress returns from its November recess. Republicans have made lifting the ban a key campaign issue after gas prices soared this summer, and President Bush lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling in July.
The U.S. Department of the Interior estimates there are 18 billion barrels of oil in waters now off-limits.
Allow? The ding dongs cannot do anything to stop it.
This may be a local boom for us here. One of our big employers, LeTourneau Technologies produces offshore drilling equipment. They have been doing a lot of gear up lately in anticipation of this.
The RNC should have an ad tomorrow showing the guys who kept the Capitol open during recess to allow offshore drilling.
They won!!!
!!!!!!VICTORY!!!!!!!
So this is how the Rebels felt when they blew up the Death Star...
Often the dominant political party advocates deceptive election year legislation to garner broad public support, while faithfully maintaining core constituency ideology in legislative details. The Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protections Act, passed as H.R. 6899 along party lines by the House, contains the worst stereotypes imaginable for such a scheme.
There exists broad public support for developing our own energy resources in known offshore regions, in Anwar, and in oil shale deposits. Core Democrat constituencies are unmoved by arguments such actions can bring down the price of gasoline, and bring significant independence from the dictatorial states that control most oil resources.
The Democrat legislation touts all-embracing resolution of our energy crisis by this title. However, in 108 sections and 65 pages for my copy, the legislation closes over 90% of offshore resources to development, layers additional onerous regulation upon energy exploration and development, empowers failed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make additional mortgage loans, provides additional grants for biofuel and mass transit, imposes a carbon footprint audit on our tax code, and imposes additional federal building code regulations. This selection of provisions and all others add not one drop of oil, but deepen the existing crisis.
The Democrat Representatives, all of who face re-election, can now maintain they have rescued our country, safe in the assurance their media supporters will underwrite their deception. This deceitful legislation now moves to the Senate, where another opportunity exists to reveal the extent of the fraud.
Better title:
Conservative surge defeats Democrats on off-shore drilling!
Dear Leader will just reinstate this when he gets into office with no opposition from a willing congress hoping to get on his good side or be reeducated
Looks like Supreme Chancellor Pelosi doesn’t “know her power” as well as she thinks...
You don’t think she’s gonna add a new chapter to her book about this, do you?
Is this like a “Present”
Is this like a “Present”
Agree. Winning the issue is only half the battle. Making sure the electorate KNOW who won, and why, is the other half.
Don’t be fooled. Their gonna make it so the ban expires, but at the same time nobody is going to want to drill because they’ll lose money doing it.
There is a great deal more than that. That figure comes from surveys that are 3-4 decades old. We can now find more oil and we have the capability to get at a lot more.
All of this means squat if Barry is elected and the Dems keep the house and senate.
A final thought. If McCain is polling less than 5 points ahead in a blue state, he won't win it. Bet on that.
This is a definite win for the GOP, at least politically. The Dems don’t have their 50-miles offshore drilling sham to provide cover while campaigning. Here’s redstates take on the Dem-controlled 110th congress:
No, really. Let’s look at all the victories:
* We kept the war fully funded.
* We successfully got the surge working.
* We shot down redeployment instead of victory.
* We shot down abandonment instead of victory.
* We won the war, in fact.
* We passed FISA - finally! And without nonsensical regulation. We even got retroactive telecom immunity!
* We still have Gitmo open.
* We still have the PATRIOT Act up and running.
* We stopped the S-CHIP bloat.
* We ensured that impeaching Bush remained the joke that it is and always has been.
* Many of you would include the defeat of immigration reform.
* Many of you would include stopping the DREAM Act.
* We got Mukasey confirmed as Attorney General.
* We got Southwick confirmed as a federal judge.
* We had Congress condemn MoveOn.org’s vicious libel of General Petraeus.
* We stopped Card Check.
* And now... let us refresh our glasses as we watch the moratorium on offshore drilling slowly die of suffocation (from our own Mark I). I understand that the thrashings at the end are usually really quite droll:
Well they bet big, and they are winning big.
We have to make sure that no one goes to establish the ban again, you know they will try to sneak it in.
If you like $4/gal, Thank Congress. If you want $10, Vote Democrat.
This is now the Main issue, Drill or No Drill; America Decides.
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops

Agree with your post in entirety. The concept of the above excerpt has been reported in articles I’ve read before, yet seems many haven’t read it. This is not to say anything negative about FReaders, only that when one has important quality information, one needs to repost it to pertinent threads until it is noticed.
Seems many FReaders have tendency to skip past lengthy posts I’ve noticed, and often skip posted links of interest unless prefaced by a brief indicating content of the link.
Thanks for your thoughts.
