Matti Juhani Saari, a trainee chef, arrived at the Kauhajoki School of Hospitality at 11am local time with a pistol, ammunition and explosives in a large black bag, then pulled on a balaclava and began his killing spree in a classroom where 20 people were sitting an exam.
"He was very well prepared," said Jukka Forsberg, the caretaker. "He walked calmly. He didn't say anything. He was cold-blooded."
Describing how he first realised what was going on, Mr Forsberg said: "I heard the sound of shooting and hysterical girls' voices. Then two girls came towards my room and said a weird man was shooting.
"I went to see and saw a guy leaving a big black bag in the corridor and going into classroom number three and closing the door.
"I looked through the window and he immediately shot at me. Then I called the emergency number. Thank God I was not hit, he fired at me but I was running zigzag. I ran for my life."
Saari, 22, who was dressed from head to foot in dark clothing, moved through the corridors and classrooms of the college in Kauhajoki, 220 miles north of Helsinki, firing indiscriminately at anyone in his sights and setting off several firebombs as he went.
As Mr Forsberg ran out of the building, he heard "horrible screams of pain" from some of the 150 catering and tourism students who were inside.
"I did not see any victims lying on the floor, but I saw two female students that had been shot in the side," he said. "And later I saw one student come out and collapse on the road.

Funny name for a Finn.
You mean he wasnt screaming “allah akbar” like some crazed pedophile lunatic homocidal maniac?
Strange...
Wonder if they will rethink their gun laws? Wonder if we will?
I hope this guy gets a one-way express ticket to Hell for what he did.
rethink in what way jess?
So far it’s gunmen up by a bunch and teachers and children down a bunch ...
This is for those idiots who won’t let teachers here have guns in class ....
This would have been prevented if a teacher had a gun.
Guess the only thing to do is post signs saying “Gun Free Zone” .. yeah, that’ll stop them ....
Who in their right mind would continue to put these lambs in a “gun free zone?”
“I looked through the window and he immediately shot at me. Then I called the emergency number. Thank God I was not hit, he fired at me but I was running zigzag. I ran for my life.”
Looked through the window and took fire? Everyone would have been better served had this individual had a weapon instead of a cell phone with speed dial set to the emergency number.
My prayers for the victims and their families.
Actually, no. "Matti Juhani Saari" looks like a fairly typical Finnish name.
The caretaker, "Jukka Forsberg," has a Finnish first name and a Swedish last name.
couldn’t agree with ya more......liberal bleeding heart idiots for starters huh?
It’s an incredibly Finnish name. There were folks by this name throughout Finland way back in the 1800s.
I expected something a little more akin to russian or swedish sounding.
I've heard of going postal, but going catering???
A lot of stories like this, not enough like this...
Three Suspects Break In, Only 2 Get Out Alive
WOODLAND HILLS CA
A Woodland Hills resident shot and killed one of three suspects who burst into his family’s home Friday afternoon in an apparent attempted home invasion robbery, police said.
The shootout between the resident and the suspects occurred in the 24000 block of Burbank Boulevard about 2:45 p.m., said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
Police identified the suspect who was fatally shot as Alexander Erion Neal, 20, of Compton.
“We’ve still got two suspects in the wind,” said Los Angeles police Lt. Brian Whitten of the West Valley Station, adding that the suspects got away in a silver-colored sedan.Tim Lynn, reporting for KCAL 9 overhead in Sky 9, said one suspect was taken into custody and that another was on the loose.
By Friday evening, however, police were telling KCAL 9 and CBS 2 reporter Lisa Sigell that the man police took in as a suspect has been cleared of any involvement in the crime. They told Sigell that two suspects were still on the loose.
The incident began when three suspects broke through the front door of the one-story, single family home in what is considered a relatively safe neighborhood.
A couple in their 70s lives in the home, but it was one of their two sons — who is in his 20s — who did the shooting, Whitten said. The other son is in his 30s.
Neal was shot inside the house with a high-powered rifle, he said.
Police withheld the name of the shooter for his own safety.
At least one of the suspects may have also fired a gun, Whitten said.
No drugs were found and it was unclear why the home may have been targeted, he said.
It is unclear if the suspects knew the homeowners or why their home was targeted.
No one who lived in the home was injured during the invasion.
The family is being interviewed reportedly at the West Valley Division station of the LAPD.

Finnish is not a European language
And our schools are mostly teaching kids to cower in a corner and wait for the guy to pick them off.
The better plan is to throw everything you have at him and take him down. You might have a few hit, but that’s better than 10 or 20 killed. Even better, yes, arm the teachers and give them regular target practice.
