Walter Reed September 19, 2008, Week 179, The Troops, Always the Troops
A cool Friday night at last, starting off pleasant, but slowly the jackets came out to counter the chill. Warmth was generated by several visits from soldiers, visitors and FReepers. This is the last Friday in Summer, Autumn starts Monday. The passing cars kept up their support with a high volume of honks. And the bus of wounded warriors and their families returning from their Friday night dinner was greeted by a solid group of FReepers with flags, signs and shouts. Dennis from Florida joined us for the evening. He is with Families United and was in DC for the Time of Remembrance this past Saturday on the National Mall.
Two recovering warriors joined us for awhile and talked about their experiences. Matt from Indiana, and with the 82nd Airborne, is recovering from an IED in Baghdad. Sherry from Connecticut was also wounded by an IED in Iraq. She is Army National Guard, Transportation Corps, with 13 active years. I believe she said she had two previous tours in Iraq. Please include them in your prayers.
Crossing Georgia Ave (we cross during stop lights), a woman driver shouted whose side are you on? I shouted back -I am on the Support the Troops side, not the anti side. She leaned back in her seat and pointed towards a young man in the passenger seat, He just returned today she shouted. She and he got a big Welcome Back.
One of our core FReepers, Sensei Ern is relocating and tonight was his last night at Walter Reed (for awhile, anyway). He is under strict orders to FReep there and FReep often. We want him to stay in practice. We will miss him and wish him the best success.

Very nice, and quick too.
Thanks Kburi.
[Mrs T]
Phew! I better stop procrastinating!
Great report!
We had checked to find out when the bus would be returning formthe night on the town. 2230 hours we were told. Too late for me. With that the Troops roll in.
Actually I thought having two WR AARs on a Monday really helped me get over the Monday-Back-To-Work Blues. But I don’t need it every week.
I thought you two were going to have a dueling AARs, see who gets more views. But since the “VIEWS” has been once again taken off FR, I guess not.
Thanks to you both though for some great reports. It’s good to see what was happening on all four corners. As you two know, I usually don’t get around to all the corners.
[Mr] T
The MODs must have turned it back on. Monday was a real, real slow link day with the views off. I guess MODs were working on the site.
Great report and pictures, Kburi! God Bless Matt from Indiana and Sherry from Connecticut. Those two recovering brave warriors will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Thanks for including my link I and a plug for Westminster! BTW, 1 of the drivers (Greg Biffle) in the video won the race. Kyle Busch wasn’t as lucky, finishing dead last.
RockerMom, you rock and your weekly Support the Troops in Westminster is terrific!
When it gets colder, we will join you and repair to the Irish pub afterward for a hot drink before driving back to lower Montgomery County.
Overheard saying to companion..."What's the problem? I can read it just fine..."
Can your desert watch bird do a moonbat flyover and and leave a gift on his/her head?
good one ErnB.
I'll try and catch up with him tomorrow morning (roadrunners turn in early and get up late....no kidding; they sleep through all the scurrying mice that would fatten 'em up....).
I'll let you know if I see him packing up for a run/flight east! (Forrest Gump comes to mind here)
I have missed this thread every week for a while. Sure am glad to catch it! DC Chapter BUMP!
Taxman Bravo Zulu!
Y’all keep up the great work!
I’ll be back to stand with you one of these FRiday nights, I promise!
Just don’t know when, but it will be as soon as I can manage a trip up thataway.
