Palin Says Obama Voting 'Present' on the Economy

At a rally in Lady Lake, Fla., today Gov. Sarah Palin accused Sen. Barack Obama of not aggressively promoting a plan to address the current crisis on Wall Street and compared the situation to his many "present" votes in the Illinois state legislature.

"This week, when the economic crisis threatened the livelihoods of millions of Americans, John McCain took a clear stand and he offered his own recovery plan," Palin told an enthusiastic crowd of thousands. "Our opponent refused to even take a stand on the position.

"And that's a lot like his tenure in the Illinois state legislature where Barack Obama voted present about 130 times. This week he voted present on the major economic issues of the day, and that is not leadership, America. It's not leadership Americans can afford."

The speech took place at The Villages, a fast-growing, conservative retirement community about an hour north of Orlando featuring eight championship golf courses, where many residents travel by golf cart. The outdoor rally was Palin's first public event in Florida.

Palin was joined onstage by her husband, Todd; her daughters Willow and Piper; and her infant son, Trig. Palin told the audience at the beginning of her remarks that Todd had taken Willow and Piper to Disney World the day before. She then handed the microphone to 7-year-old Piper, who told the crowd, "Thank you for letting us be here."

Thousands? I think the police estimate was 70,000 that is a HUGE campaign rally the size that would fill a football stadium.

Ok, what was the crowd count??!! A real number. I’ve heard anywhere from 15,0000 to 70,000.

Harry Truman ran with all the accumulated baggage of the corrupt Roosevelt regime hanging around his neck yet he won by campaigning against a "Do Nothing Congress".

No doubt Palin and McCain can run and win against a "Do Nothing Senator"!

She has a gift for concise speech. That will serve her well in a debate against the overly verbose Senator Biden.

Attorney General Bill McCollum said over 100,000 in his speech FWIW.

Speech was awesome and there were people there of all ages not just senior citizens. In fact, I would say from watching the senior citizens did not make up the bulk of the crowd — a lot of young people were there as well.

Palin is dead on target on this one. Late last week, Biden was asked to be specific about Obama’s plan. He basically said, “We are working on it.” To me, that is code words for, “we are running our ideas through focus groups to see if the masses buy into it.”

What’s the difference between Obama and a Decision?

Present.
