Democrats Need To Shake The "Elitist" Tag (Great Article By Lady Lynn Forester De Rothschild!)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 9/11/2008 | Lady Lynn Forester De Rothschild

If Barack Obama loses the presidential election, it may well be the result of a public perception that he is detached and elitist -- a politician whose expressions of empathy for hard-working Americans stem more from abstract solidarity than a real connection to the lives of millions of citizens.

Suggestions that Sen. Obama has failed to relate to working- and middle-class voters in swing states have dogged his campaign for months. His choice of Sen. Joseph Biden as his running mate only marginally corrects the problem.

While Obama supporters attempt to dismiss the charges about their candidate's perceived hauteur, they confuse privilege and elitism. Elitism is a state of mind, a view of the world that cannot be measured simply by one's net worth, position or number of houses. Throughout American history, there have been extremely wealthy figures who have devoted themselves to genuinely nonelitist principles. (Franklin Delano Roosevelt is probably the best-known example.) At the same time, many from modest backgrounds, like Harry Truman's foil, Thomas Dewey, personified elitism.

I just thought I would see fit to bring up the Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild's piece published last week in the Wall Street Journal about liberal elitism. Of note is the interesting comparison between Adlai Stevenson and Barack Obama. It brings into context her recent endorsement of John McCain and coming from a lifelong Democrat, its a good outsider's take on the state of the 2008 election.

Otherwise known as “effete snobs”, which succinctly describes most Democrats in Congress

Obama like Stevenson, McGovern, and Carter will find election day particularly disappointing. This is still America, we like heros, we like strength, we want to win wars, and the traitorous Government knows best elitism of Obama will not win the day. I never does and history is a hard bull to ride.

I am still trying to figure out what and ‘Arugula’ is an why Obamarama complains they are too expensive.

Also another liberal author “cringed” when Fred Thompson said they would have to bring their own “brie and chablis” to the conventions- because “[her] kids had asked for brie for breakfast just that morning”

his current campaign is based mainly on an assumption of his transcendence.

Good summary.

Despite Mr. Obama's assertions that his campaign is about "you," much of his campaign is, in fact, all about him. In the months since the primaries ended, his creation and display of a mock presidential seal with his name on it, his speech at a mass rally at the Prussian Victory Column in Berlin, and his insistence on delivering his acceptance speech in front of fabricated Greek columns in a stadium holding 80,000 chanting supporters have crossed the thin line that separates galvanizing voters and plain old demagoguery.

Shot down by one of his own anti aircraft gunners. LOL

Campbell Brown tried to pin the term “elitist” on Rothschild, and she firmly objected. Great inverties, btw, if you haven’t seen it. Rothschild ends the interview with a punch.

Although Obama is seen as an elitist by many, Obama is seen as a celebrity to his followers. He’s one of the “beautiful people” you want to see and be seen with. It’s the celebrity aura that is drawing most toward him.

Yeah, Bambi is just “one of the guys”, a regular guy.

Obambi is soft. He’s a passive aggressive twerp. A doofus.

Do you think you could depend on him? Is he someone you could call in the middle of the night for emergency help? I don’t think so.

Betcha $10 he’d have an excuse not to show up.

Thanks for posting this article.

I saw Lynn Forester De Rothschild interviewed on Fox and Friends last week and I was very impressed with her. She said what many of us have thought for a long time...the far left has destroyed the Democrat Party! She is intellectually honest enough to call out her own party (even more than Lieberman has) and admits that Obama, along with Pelosi and Reid would take this Country way too far left.

She also mentioned that she has lived the American Dream (become successful and wealthy), and she wants others to have the same opportunity that she has had!

Her eyes have begun to open...

The LEADERS of the Democrat Party are ELITISTS.....ALL others are the poor blacks, single women, working mothers, and uneducated and union members.

In her case, “Blue Dog Democrat” doesn’t fit. It’d have to be “Blue Fox Democrat”!

LOL

I must admit, I didn't plan to like or trust her but after seeing her interview, and hearing her on Glenn Beck and Hannity, I was very impressed with her.
She is a very classy "Lady"!

That was a great performance. I loved the way Ms. de Rothschild kept talking in her calm, measured way while Campbell Brown (and where the FReep was her blouse?) nattered like a nincompoop.
