Two years ago, I called for reform of this corruption at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Congress did nothing. The Administration did nothing. Senator Obama did nothing, and actually profited from this system of abuse and scandal. While Fannie and Freddie were working to keep Congress away from their house of cards, Senator Obama was taking their money. He got more, in fact, than any other member of Congress, except for the Democratic chairmen of the committee that oversees them. And while Fannie Mae was betraying the public trust, somehow its former CEO had managed to gain my opponent's trust to the point that Senator Obama actually put him in charge of his vice presidential search.

"You typical white grandma type racists just guzzle beer while you cling to your Bibles, clutch your guns, and discriminate against people not born in the United States."
McCain nailed it today. He has been yelling about this and getting no traction. Dr. Coburn was another Senator that could get no answers.
This Administration should be ashamed that it went this far when the signs have been there for a long time. Pandering to the Dems by Bush helped get us in this mess as very few times has he gone after the Dems.
A September 11, 2003 New York Times article shows that President Bush proposed the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago. His proposal: An agency within the Treasury Department to supervise mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Fearing that mortgages would no longer be available to people who were unable to pay them back, Democrats eventually killed the proposal. The current meltdown in the mortgage industry is a direct result of giving mortgages to people who could not pay them back, a practice protected by Congressional Democrats.
Thanks for the ping. McCain’s been hammering away at this.
You’re welcome. Mac had a great day on the campaign trail today.
I’m looking forward to the debates, and hope Sen McCain includes some of this speech into his debate remarks.
Ahhh, so it’s Bush’s fault. How original.
That’s how you do it, John! Don’t be afraid to blow your own horn. Make people realize that you called for watchdogs on Wall Street and you called for reform and Congress did nothing.
You did with the Surge in the primaries and it worked. Now do it in general election and WIN! Take that biggoted, commie crook Obama down.
He needs to keep hammering away relentlessly. Don’t repeat the speech, but keep hammering away on this subject.
Bush was sounding the alarm in 2003.
I believe that Bush has been weak, has gone along to get along, has not been statesman like except on Iraq, and if he just would have pounded the idea of the corruption to the extent that it had gone on, we wouldn’t be bailing out the Wall Street multi millionaires...

I disagree with your statement. Bush brought this up in 2003 and McCain brought it up in 2006. The citizens slept through both those events.
Now that everything has come to a point when people cannot sleep through the problems, many people are hunting for someone to blame. They should first look to themselves.
I am guilty of this too.
