For the second time in two weeks, a Catholic leader is criticizing Joe Biden for his comments on abortion and the way it is viewed in the Catholic Church.
The head of the Knights of Columbus, writing on behalf of the organizations 1.28 million members and their families, published an open letter to Barack Obamas running mate Friday on the groups Web site, criticizing Biden for remarks he made Sept. 7 on NBCs Meet the Press.

Excerpt from letter by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson (historical background on teaching on the sanctity of human life):
This teaching dates all the way back to the Didache, written in the second century. It is found in the writings of Tertullian, Jerome, Augustine and Aquinas, and was reaffirmed by the Second Vatican Council, which described abortion as an unspeakable crime and held that the right to life must be protected from the moment of conception. This consistent teaching was restarted most recently last month in the response of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to remarks by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

There is nothing to prevent councils from printing copies of this letter (as an ad) in local newspapers.
The purpose of the letter is to correct the errors about the faith being spread by Senator Joe Biden (and previously by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi).

Notes:
-
Previous #23 has been removed. Bishop Joseph Gossman of Raleigh, NC is actually the bishop emeritus, and the new bishop, Michael Burbidge has not, to my knowledge, made a personal statement.
-
Previous #16 has also been removed, it was an erroneous duplication of current #13.
-
#26 was added September 10th, although he published his column September 6th
