I just spoke to some McCain campaign sources up in Minnesota and they pretty much confirmed what the polls have been telling us for a while Minnesota really is in play for McCain. Of course, you could simply dismiss that as McCain spin, but even Obama surrogate Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius acknowledged today on the stump in Iowa that the state was awfully close.
Still, though my McCain sources made some interesting observations about what's they're seeing in Minnesota:
* McCain has been surprisingly strong in the urban Twin Cities area. They think the convention presence was a big help. * It's tied up in the Minnesota's "Iron Range" the seven counties that make up the Northeastern part of the state. Traditionally, it's big Democratic-Farmer-Labor territory so it's surprising to see McCain doing so well there. There's a lot of sportsmen up there and they think gun issues are hurting Obama. * Those working for McCain on the ground in the state say that the momentum swing toward McCain began in earnest prior to the Palin pick. Timing wise, they trace it back to his strong performance at the Saddleback forum. * Minnesota and the upper Midwest tend to have extremely high voter turnout across the board so they think any unforeseen increase there in the youth vote for Obama will prove negligible. * McCain's Minnesota folks say they're already starting to see the national press pay more attention to the state. Seems to be a fresh angle as everybody is tired of visiting and talking about the same battleground states. Expect to hear a lot more about the state as the election nears.
Ya, I thought she was pretty “Margie”. Uff-dah.
The drive-by media has done what all of us Freepers together could not do. I can’t stand John McCain for his AMNESTY bill-with TEDDY KENNEDY. John has screwed us countless times. I HAVE to vote for John BECAUSE of Governor Mrs. Sarah Palin. She is what I want in Washington, DC. She brings a .....i don’t exactly know...a smell of earth compared to a stench of corruption. She is my mom, she is my wife, she is my girlfriend, she is my sister.
Hockey, sure, but I think there will also be an undercurrent of support for a lifetime NRA member in many midwestern states.
I am hoping they will be back on a Sat. or Sun.! I can’t make it on Friday, we are SUPER busy at work and I can’t take the day off. Arrghhhhh! Hopefully they’ll make another swing through here in October, if its as close as they say it is. One can hope....
Here in Illinois, people are so fed up with politics it’s unbelievable. The idiot DEMOCRAT Governor started closing state parks, for cripes sake! His REPUBLICAN predecessor is in federal prison. Throw the bums out, and they give us bigger bums! State government is so corrupt and ineffective they make Daley look like a saint!
I do like the trend on that chart...dare we hope?
Not only her street cred, but her “Fargo” accent. She just needs to say “Obama for President? Uff Da!” in her natural accent and the Norweigians will get with the program. : )
I’d be there as well, if the rally was on a Saturday or Sunday.
They’d probably have twice the turnout if it was on a weekend because we conservatives have jobs and children to attend to during the week. I realize the weekends are most likely reserved for the battleground states, but gosh darn it, I want to see them and have a huge crowd to stick it to the libs! :)
Ya, you bet! :)
I hope they make it back on a weekend in October. I was at the Bush rally in late October 2004 in Chanhassen. The crowd was huge! Keeping my fingers crossed...
Mondale is from Minnesota, which is why he carried it.
Times have changed, however. In 2002, Norm Coleman defeated Mondale in the US Senate race. Minnesota has been trending Right for years and Kerry carried it by only 3.5% in 2004.
Hey! I was at that rally, too! I’m keeping my fingers crossed, too, that they come back on a weekend. I’m sure the turnout would be HUGE!
That rally seems like yesterday. As I recall it was 80 degrees and I was stuck in the sweater I put on in the chilly morning. Hey, it was late October in Minnesota! It was worth the heat exhaustion even though President Bush was just a small blue dot from my vantage point in the sea of people. LOL
If McCain and Palin return, I’m going to dress in layers that match my lipstick and get there extra, extra early.
None of the folks I know in MN would think of voting for Obama.
Its a moose thing, Obama wouldn’t understand ...
Take it from me. I moved from Phoenix to Minneapolis last summer.
Cheers!
Please make sure you and your 44 friends are registered and get to the polls on election day, and maybe give the other five free concert tickets for that afternoon/evening.
They say optimism costs nothing. Still believe Minnesota is red only after the November election proves it.
What are you talking about? Bush lost WI in ‘00 AND ‘04
