Hey, if that's what they want to emulate, I won't stop them. Just let's keep the rest of us safe.
One more thing: a handgun has one big advantage in a home-defense scenario: you can hold it one-handed and fire one-handed while using your other hand to hold the phone, open doors, and grab and shove the wife and kids to someplace safer.
During the LA riots, it was shotguns that kept most Korean Owned Businesses from being burned. Some were manned by the owners of the small businesses, and some were manned by paid security guards. But shotguns are effective, preferably 12 gauge semi-auto with 8 round capacity.
Recently I bought a .38 snubnose revolver, since it is easier to handle with the arthritis. The kids have home defense weapons, weve all grown up with firearms “
You can also use “snake shot” with your .38, for those who might not be the best shot.
I have it for snakes, and have killed my share of them.
It’s hard to shop online for prices at Walmart. Big 5 is better for getting an idea.
Rifles are basically cheaper than shotguns. Given these as the choices, how much is the ammo for .30-06?
So far I like the

Watts still hasn’t been rebuilt.
Shove the wife someplace safer?
Hell, she’ll be “bearing” one of the .357 mags!!!!
Correct. .22 is a varmint gun, and not any very-big varmints at that.
For a long gun, a minimum of .30 caliber.
Home defense is probably best done with a shotgun.

Find an NRA safety course in your area. Take it. Sign up your family members as well.
Learn the law as it applies to you.
Find a firearm that suits your situation. Acquire it and store it safely.
Practice with said firearm until proficient. Then practice some more.
Have fun shooting and don’t worry about imaginary riots. Your first line of defense is common sense. The very last thing you want to do is shoot someone.
Luckily, I live in an area where not only will McCain win easily, but the only chance of a November riot would be if we ran out of snowblowers or Budweiser. I love living in the boondocks.
Don’t be bullied into voting for Obama out of fear.

“how much is the ammo for .30-06?”
I shop on-line at Cheaper Than Dirt — we go to the range a lot — so, I buy a lot of ammo — you can buy in bulk and get discounts;

any suggestion on the combo 45/3”shotshell combo pistol.
I heard it doesn’t pack a great punch but size and it’s little bite make it an attractive self defense weapon. Not sure I really want to kill anyone but do wish to disable and deter. Shotgun for me might be a little large to handle. I have a 9mm and 25 clbr now in drawers around my home but would like advice on the shot pistol/45cal/shotshell.
“So I’m thinking of buying a 0.22 rifle with a scope, maybe 1000 rounds of ammunition. I’m thinking of semi-auto, perhaps with a lever discharge.”
My input for all of us that pinch pennies, is to buy the large stocks of cheap ammo for security and target practice, but to also always invest in keeping 20 to 50 rounds of the best ammunition available that is recommended for our particular weapons.
I always want my first two or three magazines to be fail safe and effective as possible, firing from cover makes it much easier to deal with a malfunction than when you are dealing with the initial confrontation.
Snakeshot. Great idea, and thank you.
The minority crowd burns down their OWN neighborhoods...not mine.
***But if you live in “their” neighborhood, you’ll need a plan in case the SHTF.
Riots?? Fine. Those slums good use a good cleaning out.
***Must be nice where you live. In the meantime we’re dealing with real world issues on the ground. Not everyone can afford to live where you do.
The `Judge’ .410/.45 long Colt revolver? I’d like to know myself.
And whether anyone has tried the Ruger .380 LCP ‘mouse gun’.
Didn’t he say “Nobody needs more than a five round clip”.
I’m having a bear of a time finding M-14 mags locally, think I’m gonna have to mail order.
However, all joking aside, another question comes up in the SHTF scenario:
What do you do with those pansy, liberal friends and relatives that show up to your house because they know you have lots of guns?
I see three (3) alternatives:
1) shoot them and leave them as an example (or just wound them for zombie bait),
2) try to tell them tough crap, go away
3) let them in and put them on patrol detail, (give them an axe or machete vs. Zombies... Anti-gunners will waste your ammo)
;) hope this provokes thought and a little morbid laughter.
(Being in a cranky mood...)
If your solution to urban SHTF is a .22, you don’t understand the problem. Think real careful about what you realistically expect to face, and what it will take to make that threat stop RIGHT NOW.
