It’s hard to shop online for prices at Walmart. Big 5 is better for getting an idea.
Rifles are basically cheaper than shotguns. Given these as the choices, how much is the ammo for .30-06?
So far I like the

I shop on-line at Cheaper Than Dirt — we go to the range a lot — so, I buy a lot of ammo — you can buy in bulk and get discounts;

The Mosin Nagant would take down a Moose, but it also kicks like one. :)
Dang though, wish there was a Big 5 nearby, since a Mosin-Nagant is on my wish list, has been ever since I fired one (actually two different ones, plus an SVT) while I was on travel to Florida, where one of the folks we were visiting was the secretary of the local gun range, and liked old military rifles. :) ) I have the target from that episode hanging on the wall behind my desk at work, along with two 7.62x54R spent catridges. (From the SVT, the owner kept the Mosin-Nagant brass for reloading, but the SVT beat the brass up pretty badly).
