**Artist Showcase**
Krall was born into a musical family in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. She began learning the piano at the age of four. In high school, she started playing in a small jazz group. When she was 15 she started playing regularly in several Nanaimo restaurants.
At age seventeen she won a scholarship from the Vancouver International Jazz Festival to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and completed three terms.
In Nanaimo her playing attracted the attention of famed bass player Ray Brown (ex-husband of the late Ella Fitzgerald, long-time member of the Oscar Peterson Trio and Grammy-winning composer) and drummer Jeff Hamilton. After hearing her play, Brown and Hamilton persuaded Krall to move to Los Angeles, and study with pianist Jimmy Rowles, with whom she began to sing. This also brought her into contact with influential teachers and producers. In 1990, Krall relocated to New York.
Her father Jim Krall's large record collection helped to expose the young Krall to jazz legends. Diana lost her mother Adella to multiple myeloma in 2002, within months of also losing her mentors Ray Brown and Rosemary Clooney. Diana's only sibling, Michelle, a former member of the RCMP, actively supports her older sister's career.
Krall and British musician Elvis Costello were married on December 6, 2003 at Elton John's estate outside London. Their first children together, twin sons Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James, were born December 6, 2006 in New York City.
All music is removed on Monday. Thanks to all the DeeJay's for their time & effort providing entertainment for the Troops!

Friday Flyby time for all the Freepers out there. It has been a wild and crazy Friday afternoon here in Kansas City. At least 8 eight tornado warnings were issued between about 4:30pm and 6:30pm. At one point I was listening to a spotter following one of the storms and it was starting to heads towards the house!!! Fortunately it lifted and turned to the north but I was getting the basement ready so Mrs alfa6 and I could hide out with the grand kids. From what I can tell no major damage was done but some of the roads and even the Interstates were/are closed due to high water.
Of course we have it made compared to the folks in Texas and Louisiana, just some bad thunderstorms and rain here. Them folks are gonna have days of bad weather and who knows what else. Rest assured that the alfa6 household is hoping for the best for all the folks down on the Gulf of Mexico.
Which leads to tonites pictures, the Hurricane Hunters. The interpid folks who fly into the storms so the the meteorologists can get the data they need to make as accurate forecasts as they can. So on with the pics...
NOAA opereates a pair of WP-3D Orions in the weather role. I have a couple of pictures of them.
The US Air Force Reserve 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flying C-130s are the folks that fly into the hurricanes to get data for the weather folks. They have upgraded to C-130J models and it should be noted that this is a RESERVE unit that takes care of getting the weather data to the weather folks. Here a 53rd C-130 sits on the ramp with a C-130J in the landing pattern.
A c-130J climbs out on it's way to full fill a mission. I don't believe this a Hurricane Hunter aircraft but it's close.
C-130J cockpit view. I imagine that this is a pretty busy place while hunting hurricanes.
Wouldn't it be nice tomorrow to see this scene at more than a few bases. One can hope.
Here is hoping all the Freepers in IKE's way are okay come Sunday and with nothing major torn up. Best Regards
alfa6 ;>}

It ain’t fair...I'm a musician, and occasionally play with the kind of people - I call them "wizards" - who can play anything they set their mind to in short order. I tell them they're the kind we mere mortals love to hate.

A Measure Of Healing
This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your Word has given me life. Psalm 119:50
When I asked a friend how she was doing 4 years after the sudden death of her husband, she said, I feel I am healing. Tears tend to burn my eyes rather than pour down my face. To me, that is a measure of healing.
How fitting are those words to describe the changes that happen as the years pass for grievers who have endured an unexpected loss.
Scripture promises comfort in our suffering (2 Cor. 1:3-7), but that help does not come all at once. In fact, from what I have heard, our desired healing may not arrive completely in this life. This is what others tell me who are further down the road of grief than our family is, 6 years after losing our teenager Melissa. In the midst of our pain, we entrust our lives to Gods sovereign direction, but we also realize that gnawing sadness will always reside in our hearts.
Indeed, God has promised that He will wipe away all tears in heaven (Rev. 7:17), but until then the healing will be incomplete. Grief lessens but does not dissipate. The psalmist said that while Gods Word gives life, there is still the combination of comfort in my affliction (Ps. 119:50). Even in lifes toughest circumstances, we can, with Gods help, enjoy a measure of healing.
I have been through the valley of weeping,
The valley of sorrow and pain;
But the God of all comfort was with me,
At hand to uphold and sustain. Anon.

I’m doing well this evening.Its raining this evening but that nothing compared to what the people of Texas are dealing with right now.
I just hope they took the advice of their governor and evacuated quick.I don’t want to hear about a large death toll because of foolishness.
I hope you and your’s are also doing well this evening.Have a great weekend.
