Obama "Old Man" Ad Attacks McCain's War Disabilities
NRO - The Corner ^ | 12 September 2008 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 09/12/2008 4:01:22 PM PDT by PhatHead

The Obama campaign is mocking John McCain for not using a computer. From the AP story about the computer illiterate ad:

"Our economy wouldn't survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats," [Obama spokesman Dan] Pfeiffer said. "It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn't know how to send an e-mail."
Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by "extraordinary." The reason he doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):
McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
In a similar vein I guess it's an outrage that the blind governor of New York David Patterson doesn't know how to drive a car. After all, transportation issues are pretty important. How dare he serve as governor while being ignorant of what it's like to navigate New York's highways.

It doesn’t really matter who is who in Obanana’s campaign staff. When I see his ads, he always voices over, I am B’roke Obanana, and I approve this message.

Well, he owns them all. How do you spell stoopididdy?

Dungheap Harkin wrote the Americans with Disabilities Act and endlessly takes credit for it. GOP is running a relative unknown against him, having gotten tired of losing decent House seats by running those holding them against Dungheap. Their candidate needs to come out swing with this and the Biden gaffe and dare Dungheap to defend his candidates. It probably won't defeat Dungheap, but it might depress Obama’s vote enough to put Iowa back in play. Both Obama and Biden WORK with McCain, Biden has for decades. They SHOULD have some idea of his physical limitations.

"The Obama campaign goes large with Biden's theme of telling guys in wheelchairs to stand up."

I can't stand to hear Biden's voice, but to be fair, Biden had no idea that the man was in a wheel chair and he immediately corrected himself and apologized profusely.

It does surprise me though, that McCain doesn't know how to send an email since there are voice-recognition programs and such that enable disabled folks to use a computer. There is really no excuse to be computer illiterate these days, especially when his office probably couldn't operate without using computers.

On the Internet hi-way though you can have no use of hands and still use a computer for most needs. It's called voice command programing. It works pretty well I have a cousin that has used it for a long time. She also has a cell phone she uses the same way. The cousin has virtually zero usage of either hand. I'm fairly certain McCain has the monetary resources to purchase this type of technology.

Considering what I expect is coming from the Snob camp, I wouldn’t be surprised if the snob somehow manages to anger the AARP.

Biden is the Human Gaffe Machine...
“Chuck, stand up, let the people see you,”

“Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America,”

“Obama bright and clean and articulate “

“you need a slight Indian accent to walk into a Dunkin’ Donuts or 7-11 “

just recently “Biden administration”

This and Obama appearing on SNL during Ike will be the end of his campaign.

This is going to boomerang back so hard it is going to make Obama look like a complete, idiotic, uncouth, loutish ASS. And McCain doesn’t need to say a word about it. This is where Sarah attacks Obama for being a total lout.

Personally hearing that an Obama ad attacks McCain by calling him a technophobe is soooo High School. Hey Barry, why don’t I make ad hominem attacks against your character? I could run an ad mocking your monolingual skills(Remember funny man when you complained about the monolingualism of America?). Perhaps I could than insinuate that you are stupid and that you need to be bilingual to talk to foreign leaders. Hell, I could just replace all of your ad’s point about computer literacy with your foreign language literacy, dunce.

If this is Obama’s “sharper tone” than it must not be about the issues for him. His campaign is going dooooooown.

Voice command is something that I keep revisiting every so often. It works, sort of.

The problem is that as of the last time I looked at it (about six months ago), there’s a LOT of websites it doesn’t work with, especially those with a lot of Flash. You’d have to be able to use the keyboard and mouse to navigate. In addition, the very best systems require some training time and that can be *extremely* frustrating.

Yes, he should be able to use email anyway. Guess what? He does! the rest of the story:

Women deserve support... if they are liberal.

Blacks need brotherhood... if they are liberal.

The disabled are to be respected... if they are liberal.

If our mainstream media want to die on this hill, let the funerals begin.

McCain knows how to use e-mail. He e-mails extensively. He dictates to his wife and she sends it. So he doesn’t actually hit the buttons.

Obama misunderstood a story in a newspaper, and decided it would make a really funny ad against his opponent. He got mad, and decided he should mock McCain.

And he probably sealed his doom.

McCain does use a computer--with his wife and staff. Cindy types his emails for him every day and they check various websites. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.

Net Vs. Norm ("His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy")
