Ta-Nehisi Coates, reacting to Marc Fisher's column on Palin's "everywoman" appeal, makes a smart point:

As Fisher points out in his column, this is an extension of this idea that expertise, intelligence, and considered opinion are overrated. I'd take it even further--this is about Rocky as God, and the limits of a culture-hero, who in his latest incarnation asked us to believe that a 60-year old man could go toe to toe with championship-caliber boxer.
I don't want to lean to hard on this point, mostly because it bears an eerie resemblance to the way blacks supported Marion Barry and Sharpe James. But this idea that the person who has the means to end civilization should be like "like me" has got to end. This is not the time.

Exactly. Of course, demographics being what they are, the damage Barry and James could do was relatively limited. Alas, that wouldn't be the case with Palin. You've got to hand it to us white folks. When we screw up, we sure can do it on a massive scale.

This is amazing. This week alone, Sarah Palin has been compared to:
Osama bin Laden
Dick Cheney
Marion Berry (???)
a sexual pervert
an extremist Christian
He, like Marion Barry, is probably smoking crack..
My take on it is that Palin has a firm grip on our national security, where Obama has none. The man is a fricken fruit loop when it comes to international relations and the military in general.
He wants to disband our military. He thinks chatting with terrorists will resolve all our problems. And Palin sounds dangerous to these people? Do they even know what Obama has said?
They are just stone deaf, Palin has an abundance of all of that and puts Obama and definitley gaff-master Biden to shame.
Apparently, this idiot didn't watch the movie. Rocky only was able to fight the champ because the champ broke his hand in an early round. He went into the fight knowing he would lose, but against an opponent with only one hand he suddenly had a chance, and pushed the younger fighter to the limit.
It was very unrealistic, but they did try to maintain some plausibility. And, I think Rocky in the movie was supposed to be in his early 50s, and was patterned after George Foreman in his later fights, when he was around 50. The fact that Sylvester Stallone may be 60 doesn't mean the character was. Ever watch a movie with Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, or Paul Newman when they were old, playing a tough guy? That's Hollywood.
You are going to compare this fine decent woman to a crack smoking political hack?
This is why GOOD people with Good ideas don’t enter public service. They don’t want their repution smeared along with their families.
They ruin the whole process for people Voters and Canidates alike to see who can smear and character assasinate the opponent first!
I will once again say this gives me such respect for Sarah to go through this process. Repeated hits on everything from your gender, family, and ideas.

But Sarah is very tough and believes stongly enough in our countries ideals to sacrifice of herself for public service.
Not to Have a Fancy title, Power, or use as a steppingstone to higher office. No she thinks she can put Washington DC back on a correct path.
Oddly enough, when I consider all of the people I have heard screeching that “they don’t want a POTUS/VPOTUS ‘like them’”, I find myself fully agreeing with them...

It’s so ironic...Sarah Palin, quite possibly the most plain-spoken, cogent and direct politican this country has seen in who knows how long......the left can’t understand her. They have to say something about which nothing needs be said. She is...who she is. You know the expression “it is what it is?”.
Why is there a need to to analogize, to compare, to measure, to triagulate? It’s because of LSD. Liberal Simplicity Disease. They just cannot accept a simple explanation, because it would invalidate all the deep thinking, the meditation retreats, the encounter groups, the diversity trainings they have put in. It’s just too damn simple, they cannot help but overthink everything because they are so frickin smart. Undermine that concept in ther little peanut brains and there’s nothing left. If they were smart they would STFU. But they are NOT smart. They are overeducated elites who cannot help but believe they are so smart they are innately entitled to tell you what to do and what to think.
The fact that the same pathetic rabble who elected Marion Barry are now supporting Obama en masse should tell us something.
Sarah Palin would be alot like Marion Barry if she was a crack-smoking, whore-mongering moron.
This moonbat is flying in the dark..
