John McCain is mocked as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate in a television commercial out Friday from Barack Obama as the Democrat begins his sharpest barrage yet on McCain's long Washington career.

The new fighting spirit comes as McCain has been gaining in the polls and some Democrats have been expressing concern the Obama campaign has not been aggressive enough. Obama's campaign says the escalation will involve advertising and pushes made by the candidate, running mate Joe Biden and other surrogates across the country.

"Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe says in a campaign strategy memo. "We will respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain's attacks and we will take the fight to him, but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people."

The newest ad showcasing their hard line includes unflattering footage of McCain at a hearing in the early '80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubik's Cube.

"1982, John McCain goes to Washington," an announcer says over chirpy

Hmmm...

Do I want the commander in chief who will email really stupid instructions to the Joint Chiefs and ground commanders?

Or do I want the guy who’ll pick up the phone and tell them to kill the Islamist cockroaches?

This guy just makes rookie mistake after rookie mistake. Mocking Mac's age and computer skills?? That might appeal to the MTV vote as it's snarky and juvenile. It'll sure p.o. seniors and leave the rest of us saying huh?

A pro goes negative over issues people care about, like the economy or experience or the war. The McCain people must be loving this.

I gather Obama’s internals are showing he’s slipping among the 18-29 y.o. vote and he’s trying to shore it up. Stupid method, though, since he’s just alienated a lot of AARP types who might have been inclined to vote for his socialist schemes because they’ve bought into the perennial demonRAT Social Security scare tactics.

I can’t wait to start seeing the ads with photos of Michelle and Obama with their terrorist friends. Obama should be very worried about showing old photos “

Another thread refernces the dangers of having Nobama see very sensitive documents in the Oval office. With his ties to terrorists, it could be a very leaky pipeline.

So, Obama would have put up an on-line poll after 9-11?

What should we do?

A. Find the bastards responsible and kill them?

B. Collect eggs from the chickens that have come home to roost?

C. Apologize and send money to every country on the earth?

D. Ask the French for advice on proper white flag etiquette?

Gotcha politics can come home to bite you. I wonder how much Obama knows about military ranks or organization? We already know he thinks the US is composed of 57 states.

BO more than likely has about as few computer skills as McCain. I doubt that he personaly sets up or administers his own web site nor does he write any of his own documents.

I have had personal contact in an academic format with quite a few lawyers and most of them have the computer skills of 2-year old.

Let’s see BO demonstrate some of his “advanced” computer knowledge. He’s like any other lawyer; those mundane tasks are left to the office staff.

Way to go 0bama. Senior Citizens in general aren't very computer savvy. So not only did you attack McCain with this ad; you attacked Seniors...The most reliable voting demographic to show up at the polls. I know your targeting the younger crowd the....the least reliable demo, so how will this be a net plus for you??

You better hope no new “rad” video game is being released around Election Day, or the target demo of this will be showing up less then they usually do. They'll have better lines to wait in....DUDE!!

Is this the best desperation can bring??
Who's running your campaign??
Give him a raise...I'll chip in if this keeps up.

I’m not sure the ad is true. I think I read that McCain started learning the computer over the last year (including email).

I think it’s a mistake for him to use email. Better to have no electronic trail for RATS to subpoena.

Obama would wreck a Piper Cub during take off in a solo flight.

One can only imagine that jerk trying to land a Navy jet on a carrier. Actually I can’t because he might sink our carrier.

"If Obama thinks computers skills are essential to be president, then he doesn’t have a clue what actually IS essential to be president.

It's exactly what Obama thinks and is a great departure point for someone who wants to write about the candidate cut from cool styrofoam.

...but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people.

So which 'big issue' exactly is it that makes email germane?

This, IMLTHO, is another screaming example of the arrogance of the left (message = he's not like us). This is clearly a targeted ad seeking to shore up the youth vote (message = old man is out of touch). I thought he had the youth vote in the bag. No matter how mister fluffy wants to spin it - this is a defensive ad that yet again says NOTHING positive or reinforcing about what Mr. Obama wants to do 'on the issues'. It's sadly laughable in terms of strategy.
