John McCain is mocked as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate in a television commercial out Friday from Barack Obama as the Democrat begins his sharpest barrage yet on McCain's long Washington career.

The new fighting spirit comes as McCain has been gaining in the polls and some Democrats have been expressing concern the Obama campaign has not been aggressive enough. Obama's campaign says the escalation will involve advertising and pushes made by the candidate, running mate Joe Biden and other surrogates across the country.
"Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe says in a campaign strategy memo. "We will respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain's attacks and we will take the fight to him, but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people."
The newest ad showcasing their hard line includes unflattering footage of McCain at a hearing in the early '80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubik's Cube.

Say so-long to the Bill and Melinda Gates vote.
Shall we talk about what Obama was doing in the early 80s?
So I suppose our response ad would be the picture of Barry Obama in a large afro and a quasi-leisure suit? Almost everyone looked stupid in the 70s and 80s."
Can you imagine the cries of racism and bigotry that would be leveled at McCain were he to run an ad showing Obambi in an afro and a leisure suit?!!?
This will go over like a lead balloon. I remember the 80's. I remember clunky phones. I used to have a TRS-80 computer. I once wore glasses. I actually liked Saturday Night Fever.
And I'm in my 30's. How will this go over with 65 years olds who view Obama as a punk to begin with? They vote too.
Who the hell is advising this campaign.
I used to have a VIC-20, and a friend had a Timex Sinclair. Hell yeah!
Maybe McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer, but I’m pretty darn sure he knows how many states there are.
Spare me. I have had exactly two jobs where upper management did more than pretend they gave a damn what the rank-and-file felt like, let alone listened to them for guideance. I call myself an underling because that is exactly how most companies actually view staff. And the two companies benefitted immensely from the innovations I developed for them. Most companies look for conformism, not mavericks.
OH NOES!!! McCain doesn’t know what lolcatz are and he’s missing thousands of male enhancement ads!
They were discussing this Obama commercial on Fox & Friends this morning. Steve Doocy encouraged people to e-mail their reactions, "if you know how to use a computer."
I believe Biden started in DC in 1972. While McCain was still in Vietnam prison, IIRC (oops, there’s one of those code thingies!).
So Obie and Ahmanutjob are BFF?
Here’s a chap who can’t take a stand 130 times attacking a man who could master the pc computer in three weeks or less if he wanted . I’m 63 and put it off way too long but in no way did it hurt me not to . I’ll bet 0bama can’t field strip an M-16 in bright day light , but I wouldn’t bet against Sarah .
McCain isnt trading text messages with Scarlet Johansson (sp)???????? .......just d@mn...
Deal breaker ..cant vote for him now so sad .s/
sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiifff.
(cue Eric Clapton song..Cocaine)
That's it. I'm not voting for him.
Do I really need a sarcasm tag?
The only thing I care about on this issue is whether the president can understand the concepts of computers and networks enough to make the right decisions where they are concerned. I don’t care if he has ever actually touched a computer.
Computer-ignorant legislators, judges and executives have already caused enough damage. It’s kind of like how Democrats who know nothing of guns pass gun legislation.
The interesting thing about BO’s ad is that it is a look into what he thinks is important and what he thinks his base is important.
I’ve always viewed him as, essentially, a pop phenomenon—a 20th century tulip bubble if you would. That’s why the Brittany Spears ad hurt so much. There was a core element of truth.
Obama apparently thinks that being “with it” is an important qualification for president. Maybe the ad helps with the youth vote. I can’t imagine it helping with us old farts, many of whom looked as silly as McCain in that era and many of whom don’t use email.
