THE White House race has plumbed new depths as Barack Obama accused John McCain of stooping to "lies and phony outrage" in response to the Democrat's mocking talk of "lipstick on a pig".
In a new Internet ad, the McCain campaign accused Senator Obama of a sexist "smear" against the Republican's female running mate, Sarah Palin. But Senator Obama aides flagged a YouTube video showing Senator McCain using the same phrase himself.
"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig," Senator Obama said at a school in Norfolk, Virginia, reprising his line to attack the Republican pair's claim to be "maverick" reformers at odds with their own party.
"They seize on an innocent remark, try to take it out of context, throw up an outrageous ad, because they know that it's catnip to the news media," he said.
"I don't care what they say about me. But I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and 'Swift Boat' politics," he said, referring to an ad offensive against 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry.
The McCain campaign ad over the lipstick row came just after another hugely controversial spot that had accused Senator Obama of favoring explicit sex education for kindergarten-aged children.

Phony outrage? OK, I guess so — we might as well call a spade a spade.
But at least it keeps the news cycle out of their “destroy-Sarah groove they were in.

Do these buffoons not realize that the more they attack her the more people are going to side with her? If I didn't know better I'd think the Clinton's are sabotaging his campaign, but he's doing it himself (with a little help from joey biden, of course)
The dems are in free fall into a seemingly bottomless pit.
You can't even get a comprehensive list of the gaffe's, mistakes and meltdowns because they change hourly!

Phony outrage?!! The DNC attacks Palin for two weeks straight and then puts out a memo with a picture of a girl pig on it last week and we are supposed to think this wasn't planned? Oh yea...the outrage is real alright.

imho, This was no gaffe. It was quite deliberate. The lipstick quote was a clear reference to Palin’s convention speech. And following that comment was the old saying..”You can wrap an OLD fish in newspaper. but it still stinks...” is a jab at McCain. This part of his speech isn't really being focused on at all.
Barry said if she wanted to be treated like a man, she would be.
But Barry didn't think McCain would defend his VP and demand an apology. Or, more importantly, the media would report it.
I think he is demanding a re-do.

As a matter of fact, it might be phony outrage.
But I have a memory. Memory is a faculty dimocRATS hope the plebes don't have. I remember "Macaca". That too was as bogus as can be.
Live by the phony outrage, die by the phone outrage, sez me.

Sure, it's "phony outrage." The Democrats have refined phony outrage into the everyday tactic that it is for liberals. Obama was probably not referring to Palin with the term but I am sure that her pit-bull quote is what put the pig phrase in his mind. He is not adept in his reactions. He doesn't think on his feet, as it were, or maybe he doesn't think much at all.
McCain's crew is finally showing some talents that Republicans have been sadly lacking for generations, the ability to fight against the weapons and tactics employed on the battlefield by the other side. Outrage and indignation have been Democrat stock-in-trade for many years. It substitutes for reason and facts which they lack but works very well in the political battles along with slogans. Returning O&I to the democrats along with reason and facts must keep them quite unbalanced. Phoney outrage is great so long as it keeps Hussein and Co. reacting and protesting. They can't win that game. It has been one-sided for too long and they have never practiced against it.
