I believe is a major mistake by the McCain camp. They could have let the 'Pig' comment go and been endeared even further. But now, they are taking on the victim status and seem small and petty, and as if they are using this as a way to avoid talking about issues. This response is going to cause Obama to take back the lead again in the polls.
it is worth noting that Obama took months to ditch the Rev Wright, he doesn’t have months to put the controversy away..........so it will take a couple of news cycles away from his more positive messages, he doesn’t need the black dem vote, he needs the WHITE FEMALE vote.

No I don’t agree at all. If you read any of the far left websites you will immediately learn that he meant this just as it was took. With his arrogant nonapology he’s now taken the victim route and looks like the weasely immaturelittle man that he is. I agree. The McCain team should not respond to this at all. Don’t play the victim card. That’s the Democrats game.

Obama flat-out lied in his statement about McCain being behind this “lipstick on a pig” controversy. He has zero proof that McCain caused this controversy and it is Obummer himself that made the statement in the first place. So here is Obummer trying to turn a negative into a plus — and it won’t work because most voters are politically savvy enough to realize that he was referring to Palin in her recent speech about “hockey moms”. You would have to be completely naive to think that Obummer wasn’t alluding to Palin in his creepy statement. And you could tell by the reaction of all of the Democrats erupting into hysterical applause and cheering as he said it. So Obummer has no case against McCain — it was intentional, it was planned he meant it, it was intentional and then he lied about McCain being behind it. Nice try Obummer, but it won’t work.
Governor Palin could use this situation to an advantage by pointing out that Senator Obama was factually incorrect... She is a “pitbull with lipstick, got it! A pitbull with lipstick that will change Washington politics”. This will allow her to keep associating Obama with this comment and still point out her pitbull style of politics.

Instead, we have a defensive and whiny Obama defiantly refusing to acknowledge any error and attempting to blame everyone else. Immediate reaction to this from various left and right online blogs is pretty begative to Obama, and he loses the whole news cycle for at least another day.
McCain's people really do seem to be firmly inside Obama's OODA loop.

I think you give Obama way too much credit. I believe he was trying to use southern analogies to a Red State southern crowd, nothing more. That said, he should have known that any reference to “lipstick” would and could be construed by many as a smear on Palin. Yes, McCain and Steve Schmidt should milk it for all it’s worth for another day or so, then move on. Women will not forget this comment, whether it was intentional or not. I think it shows that the messiah is not as smart as many of his followers and the MSM believe he is. Oh yeah, I loved his comment about “New Pennsylvania” the other day. You don’t think the PA Repubs made hay of that? Come on, when your opponent puts his or her foot in their mouths then you must take advantage of it, but don’t over do it and ignore the issues. At a minimum this has hurt The One even more with women and knocked him seriously off message. Good.

The crowd was chanting “No pit bull! No pit bull” before the rally.
The image was of Sarah’s comment was at the fore of the crowd’s collective mindset.
In addition, the crowd KNEW EXACTLY what he was referring by their obvious reaction.

She had made a comment saying that she would aggressively fight for what she thought was right. She made the argument that she is the true aggressive advocate for change that Obama was not.
Obama's response is that she's just a dressed up pig.
It's obviously spiteful and without substance.
He's the presidential candidate making spiteful and insubstantial insults towards the opposing vice presidential candidate.
It shows that he's being over shadowed by the vice presidential candidate of the opposition. That shows a lot about how weak his message really is.
The fact that she's overshadowing McCain by so much shows how weak he is as well, but since she's on his side it helps him far more than it hurts him.
Stop wining, he knocked them off message and this is what it is all about. Ignore it.
The comment shows people something that the McCain campaign doesn't want people to miss, and they can't rely on the press not to gloss over it and try and bury it as soon as possible, so they needed to do something to bring it to people's attention.
Is it taking the McCain camp off message? Somewhat, but McCain's message really hasn't resonated all that well with people, so having people focus on Palin isn't a bad strategy.
At the same time, it has taken Obama off message and put him on the defensive. All Obama really has is charisma, and when he's under pressure he doesn't even have that. This gaff shows he isn't a skilled politician. His lead in the polls disappeared and he lashed out with childish insults.
Democrats usually value form over function. This shows that Obama is weak on both.
Release the ad, then go back on message while Obama wastes his time dealing with the mess he created.
Obama's strength is the support of the media. If he's on the defensive rather than spouting his platitudes while the media tells everyone how great he is, the illusion he's created around himself wavers.
