I believe is a major mistake by the McCain camp. They could have let the 'Pig' comment go and been endeared even further. But now, they are taking on the victim status and seem small and petty, and as if they are using this as a way to avoid talking about issues. This response is going to cause Obama to take back the lead again in the polls.
When you walk up to the plate against a pitcher who's struggling; make 'em throw a strike before you take the bat off your shoulder.
Exactly. Keep him on defense. Make this election about whether or not you want that jerk in the Oval Office. The more he has to explain something stupid he said the better.
I heard from a friend this AM whose mom is a democrat. She too has had it with 0...she’s voting for McCain/Palin. Needless to say my friend was shocked because it’s the first time her mom has ever voted for anyone but a Dem.
I hope you’re right. She can’t afford to be seen as a weak, whiny woman. Her charm is that she comes across as smart and a tough cookie. If she acts like “Oh how could you say such mean things about poor sweet little me” it will kill her appeal. It’s fine if McCain complains about it but she’s got to be tough.
He had his hand to his head almost as though he was thinking “do I really want to say this?”
It was clearly planned.
Whoopie Goldberg and Joy were all over it on the View this morning complete with video of McCain using the phrase when talking about a bad program. And he apologized for using it before he did.
But the Dems ARE going to use it to say the GOP is lying, misrepresenting etc.
My hope is that McCain moves off this and ignores the haloed one's responses and moves to a new area of attack, letting Obama and Co. remain fixated while the old naval aviator maneuvers back on to Obama's SIX.
I agree with you. Humor would’ve been a MUCH better tactic.
Let US call “sexism”, not them.
I agree with you in term that they should not have address it. Obama is not going to win this elections no matter what the polls say. It is an impossibility for him to win because the hard reality regarding his own party cannot be changed i.e. 18% to 20% of his own party is not going to vote for him and hence he is going to certainly lose the elections.
This childish behavior makes both parties look immature and may leave a bad taste in the mouths of some.
if Palin or McCain would have used a phrase that included monkey or chimp or anything else that could have remotely referred to a black person?
Or, “It’s time to tell Washington to keep their cottin’-pickin’ hands off my wallet...”
Or, “But seriously folks, let’s call a spade a spade...”
The list is endless. And don’t think that their aren’t Obama operatives vetting every word and phrase that comes out of the Democrat camp.
I think I’ll leave that up to the professionals running McCain’s campaign. They seem to be doing a great job, so I’m not going to second guess them at this point.
Time to drop it and refresh and renew their stump speeches. Time to get more specific on issues.
Get serious, drop the flap, and get moving.
That is the bottom line on this. There is nothing more to it than what you posted! Either way Obama stinks by calling her a pig or he is not very bright. Which is it? Since he called McCain a old dead fish the answer is that what he said was intentional. And because he ain't that dumb! It HAD to be scripted and intentional.
Wow! Obama just flagellated himself. How Shia of him! Lol!
In a pig's eye.
I am amazed by the some of the responses here about letting it go. What sage advice, iike we did in 2006 and got our heads handed to us. Let’s just play nice and stick to the issues and let the Democrats out Democrat us by getting into discussions about how much we should socialize the country. That’s a winner. We all knew what he meant, the brain donors in his audience knew what he meant. What Sarah should do is play it up like Obama’s pithy little toadies like John Lebowitz(Stewart) and Colbert and make fun of Obama and use a reference to it in her speeches. Put your boot on his neck until he quits I say, destroy him, humiliate him and put him out of politics forever. The guy needs to get a job, he really does, and stop looking for fullfillment in this meglomaniac dream of world revolution. Something Sarah should say.
Hi I’m just your resident little piggy Vice Presidential candidate, oink oink. Funny coming from a big spending liberal like our opponent. Senator Obama pig is as pig does. We’ll get to issues in the debates, Senator Obama and we’ll show the American people your version of change, from healthcare, taxes and education and how it’s more liberal pig spending and pie in the sky nonsense. More promises of change which your party has used as code for 70 years to mean, give me the money and we can spend it better than you. Enough is enough Senator, let’s throw out some new ideas, not the same stinky old pig feed slop.
Listening to the delivery he is being called on (he left a pregnant pause after "You can put lipstick on a pig ...."), and watching him smirk as the crowd reacts, compared with his repetition this morning -- where he runs the entire statement together in one pause-less go, "You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig." -- I believe his delivery yesterday was intended to be taken as an allusion to Palin.
Others here have linked to several video recordings of his sneaky use of flipping the bird "to" Hillary - which got similar laugh and supportive reactions from the crowd. He's deliberately being "sneaky" with his punk comments and actions.
Sign me up on the “McCain campaign should move on and find new avenues of attack, while backers should continue hammering” side of things.
