Deceitful Tactics By Kaine To Promote Obama In Churches
email ^ | Sept. 6, 2008 | (local pastor)

Posted on 09/09/2008 4:38:33 PM PDT by beezdotcom

(This is from an email forwarded to me that allegedly came from a local pastor. I have followed up with the pastor personally, and he confirmed that the email was indeed originally sent by him, and accurately represents his experience. Even though he did not specifically ask me to do this, I have redacted the most easily identifying information - but I will provide it to folks who FReepmail me with a specific request for it.)

Gentlemen,

I never write mass emails and am repulsed by hyped up causes that are emailed to me. But I am writing to you as a colleague who almost suffered an embarrassing moment at our church, attempting to spare you that same situation.

Last week, I received a call from Governor Tim Kaine's office, apprising me that our church had been carefully selected by the Governor to come and worship with us on Sunday, (MONTH) (DAY). The representative asked if the Governor could have ten minutes to greet our congregation. I was honored to be asked and opened our pulpit to him without hesitation.

Then I received a second call from this same representative the next day, just firming up details. At that point, I noticed that he was calling from the 312 area code, which is Central Chicago. So I inquired as to why a man from Chicago with a Yahoo email address was calling to schedule the Virginia Governor officially in a Virginia church. He was very hesitant to give me an answer. So I pressed insistently, notifying him that I had his number on Caller ID and that I would investigate.

Only then did he admit that he was actually calling from the religious affairs office in Barak Obama's Campaign Headquarters.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing! As he attempted to defend himself, he let me know that the presidential race is very tight and that most Christians in America traditionally vote Republican even though their candidate would better reflect all their values if he was elected president. They are obviously counting on a lot of believers being disappointed in some of Senator McCain's views. He assured me that if our congregation was just informed, then they would most likely switch and vote for Senator Obama rather than Senator McCain, like believers across the nation are doing, he asserted. So the connection with Governor Kaine was that, since he has loaned himself for the Obama campaign for a few weekends between now and November, he was being scheduled in strategic places to "stump" (his words) for Obama.

According to him, our church was selected as one of those strategic places.

When I answered that Senator Obama's voting history is now public record and that he has rarely voted in keeping with our church's values, he literally hung up the phone on me! Five minutes later, I got a call from his boss, the chairman of Obama's religious affairs committee, attempting to do damage control. He insisted that withholding the Governor's connection to Obama was discretion, not deception. I wouldn't hear of it. I was incensed that they would attempt that strategy on us. Since then, I have received several calls from Governor Kaine's office attempting to do damage control to his constituents - even offering to come greet our congregation without mentioning his connection to the Obama campaign. But suffice it to say, this Governor won't ever be speaking at our church.

My concern is that they might be calling your church as the next possible location to stump since they have been rebuffed at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

I just wanted you to be on your guard.

I don't know. Maybe because I have a headache but this is not passing a smell test. Sorry.

I understand your skepticism, and the lack of identifying info doesn't help. FReepmail me with your email address, and I will forward you the original exchange with all the personal information, the name, phone etc. of the church. (I did get permission to "selectively email" that information to individuals.)

If it were Republicans asking to push a candidate in the churches, yes, the IRS would come down on that church. But the demcoraps have been getting away with this crap for deacdes now and the IRS will not come down on them.

Have you heard any of this type of “below the pulpit” campaigning by Kaine, or Kaine’s supporters?

Pass it on to the Federal Election Commission and other regulatory authorities. Go public to the local radio hosts and let them establish the truth of the matter.

If it is true, and their found out, it will curtail further violations and have them on notice as being watched. I wouldn’t expect much in the way of prosecution, but at least you stop the illegal activity.

You’ve got a great scoop, and for the sake of America, you’ve got to get the facts out, just posting here is not proving anything and I ask you out everything you know.

.
he was actually calling from the religious affairs office in Barak Obama’s Campaign Headquarters.

My observations from Sunday CNN

LATE EDITION (CNN) : Gov. Tim Kaine, D-Va

Kaine “economy has been managed in a disastrous way”[speed bumps maybe, disaster=>another Democrat stretch]

Kaine “small business is the back bone of the economy” [Big business hires small business, just look how many sub-contractors IBM hires]

Kaine “big business doesn’t need the government help”

Kaine “denying businesses tax deduction” [Is this 0bama’s Plan? Tax credits instead of REAL RATE reductions?]

The place to start is Gov. Kaine’s office. They need to be asked if they are in fact participating in this scheme to campaign for Obambi in “carefully selected churches” and whether they believe that does or does not violate IRS rules (for one).

Kaine needs to be torched big-time over this. Focus on Kaine! If that one takes fire, it will-—and rightly should-—keep Virginia out of Obambi’s hands.

Here’s the reality: this story is going to make it out, WITH attribution. The reality is that I had permission to forward the original to selected individuals, and I have done so. If I do not get explicit permission from the pastor to spread it more broadly with attribution (which I hope to have within the next day), I have no doubt that those recipients of the original will take matters into their own hands.

I think your focus on Gov. Kaine is spot-on.

As I posted previously, the way to get this thing out into the open is to go through Gov. Kaine’s office. They need to be asked about this scheme and be pressed and pressed until full answers are given.

Kaine has been a disaster and this is one more match to the fire.

That is one of the avenues I hope to pursue.

Heh...the local guy has not made any secret of the fact he is against 'McCain/Bush'. It wouldn't go far with him.

point, Beez, it is understood you want to do the right thing, and your willing to be patient about it out of courtesy, though I would just remind you that in less than 60 days people are expected to vote, and your information may be important before that election happens

The Feds will take a long time to investigate and there will be no action prior to the election. How about the state GOP or RNC legal team and a letter copied to the county commissioner or local Supervisor of Elections copied to Obama campaign and the FEC. Point is, get them to halt the activity.

Sad thing is, the pastor will likely have his church trashed. Tell him to install some security cameras to document the potential BHO thug traffic.

FRiends, let's just put it this way - this information will not languish.

Here's how it goes: by this time tomorrow, I will post the response (or lack of one) from the pastor, about his preferences in handling this matter. Hopefully, this post will include information about where I have forwarded the information.

If instead, he expresses to me that he does not want me to spread the attributed information to a larger audience, I will honor that. However, at that time, those folks here who have received the complete original email from me (which was sent within his original scope of consent) will have their OWN decision to make. I have no doubt that in that case, they will make the correct decision.

This is why I really, really would prefer his consent before letting this thing blow open. Once this is out and they are identifiable, their web site will crash, their phones will ring off the hook, they will have BHO supporters harassing them...it's the sort of thing you're reluctant to spring on someone without warning.

The reality is that his email is already making it around - I was a thirdhand recipient originally, until I contacted him directly to verify it. Therefore, in a way, he has already "put it out there" - but clearly, nobody has yet taken it to the next level. I'm merely trying to 'socialize' the idea with him before the inevitable happens.

This is outrageous!

Indeed it is...it's insulting, it's sneaky, and it potentially imperils the tax-exempt status of churches who fall for it.
