McCain camp says Biden 'sunk to a new low' [Biden/Obama care more about special needs kids]

(CNN) — John McCain's campaign hit back hard at Joe Biden Tuesday after the Democratic VP candidate appeared to suggest Republicans who do not support stem cell research — like GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin — are lacking in their support of children with disabilities.

“Barack Obama’s running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children," McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt said. "Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign."

The sharp response, indicative of the increasingly heated rhetoric from both presidential campaigns as the election enters the final stretch, came shortly after Biden said advocates for people with disabilities should support stem cell research.

Biden did not mention Palin — the mother of a baby with Down syndrome, and someone who has said she will be a “friend and advocate in the White House" to parents of children with disabilities — but seemed to direct a question to her.

Joe really stepped into it today. He is NOT going to win this debate with Palin.

hehehehe

I just got a big grin today. You can just tell which campaign has the big MO and which doesn’t.

Absolutely not true that fetal stem cells have produced more results. Do the research:

What are adult stem cells and from where do they come?

Fortunately, embryos are not the only source of stem cells. Adult stem cells are found in the individual at any time after birth. There are a number of ethical sources of stem cells that hold out realistic hope for cures and treatments of diseases. Stem cells from adult tissues, which are committed to differentiating into a limited number of cell types such as liver, brain or blood, are called adult stem cells. These too have the capability of developing into specific tissues. Adult-type stem cells can also be derived from various pregnancy-related sources such as umbilical cords, placentas and amniotic fluid. Some scientists today assert that not only are adult stem cells more readily available but they are also more effective in treating diseases.

Which of the types of stem cells are medically most successful?

Stem cells derived from placental or umbilical cord blood have proven to be remarkably effective, similar to other adult stem cells. Originally it was theorized that stem cells from these various sources would be ineffective because they are limited in their ability to become various types of cells. However, alternative sources of stem cells have been successfully differentiated into needed tissue and are already effective in healing human illnesses. More than 50 diseases have already been treated successfully in humans using adult and umbilical cord stem cells.

Biden proving to be the mental midget we all knew he was capable of being. How long before Obama throws him under the bus with grandma and Rev. Wright?

The more he talks, the more he exposes himself a buffoon.

Do a search for successful stem cell research, almost all that comes back is adult stem cell work.

Heres my argument with embryonic stem cell research.

I do not oppose stem cell research. I oppose embryonic stem cell research. And lets get one thing straight. No one and I repeat no one has banned stem cell research. George Bush did not ...no one. What is at argument is having federal funds PAY for stem cell research.
I recently had a conversation with a lib who was uncomfortable with Sarah Palin’s, “Its Gods will speech”.
She told me that this country was built on separation of church and state.
I said I agreed that there should be separation of church and state but its a line that we have to be diligent in not blurring. As she nodded approval, I went onto to say, for instance...embryonic stem cell research....
why should I throw away my Christian beliefs to help pay for something that is against my religion. Dont I too have a right to worship as I see fit? yes ask for separation of church and state but make sure you realize it goes all the way and both ways.
She changed the subject.

I think you have it bassbackwards. Adult Stem Cell Research has produced ZERO results that benefit mankind. It is the Fetal Stem Cells that have yielded very successful results

What is your source for this claim? It is so much the opposite that the left carefully leaves out the word "embryonic" in order to make it look like conservatives are against all stem cell research.

All of which is irrelevant since private companies can research either, the restriction is on federal funding, which imo is almost always a mistake. If the research is potentially profitable, the industry will develop it. In which case Biden and Obama will be screaming about obscene drug industry products.

Exactly, Biden and Obama completely distort the issue. I'd say lie, but they may not know what they vote on.

As I recall the issue was in the mid 10s of millions of federal support, which the industry probably spends on give away ball point pens and prescription pads. If it's profitable, the research will be done.

I think that Barack Obama should dump Biden in favor of a much more child friendly running mate. This ticket would send another thrill up Chris Matthew’s leg.

That is NOT correct. See here, and here.

To date, not one treatment has been developed from embryonic stem cell research while several dozen approved treatments have resulted from adult stem cell research.

One more thought - In an Obama-Biden world Trig Palin would not exist. He would either be aborted or left to die after birth.

Most likely not. Nor would Bristol's baby, a punishment in Obama's words. Nor Obama himself, conceived out of wedlock as he was.
