HOW OBAMA BLEW IT (PAYS PRICE IN POLLS FOR BUNGLED ATTACKS ON SARAH)
New York Post ^ | September 9, 2008 | Kirsten Powers

Posted on 09/09/2008 9:03:15 AM PDT by bobsunshine

YESTERDAY'S Gallup poll had John McCain ahead of Barack Obama by an astonishing 10 points among likely voters. A Washington Post poll had that lead at only two points, but clearly showed a McCain surge - especially among women. This wasn't what Democrats were expecting when they left Denver - yet they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Obama's toughest challenge has always been to connect with working-class swing voters. So attacking the poster child for small-town values, Sarah Palin, was a bad strategy.

No, Obama didn't engage in the mass sneering at Palin - but he did fall into the trap of disrespecting her. When McCain chose her, the Obama campaign's first response was to ridicule the size of her town. Then the candidate himself began referring to her as a "former mayor" when she is in fact a sitting governor.

When she retaliated (justifiably) by mocking his stint as a organizer, the Obama camp was clearly rattled. Obama himself actually began arguing about the importance of community organizing. His supporters amplified this cry - claiming Palin's attack was a racist slur and passing around e-mails titled "Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate was a governor."

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was probably wondering what being a community organizer has to do with being president.

Lured by the McCain camp, Obama supporters engaged in an argument about who had more overall experience - the top of the Democratic ticket or the bottom of the GOP ticket. This diminished Obama.

Meanwhile, the media lit up in all their cultural-elite splendor.

I was able to spend some time with her and Michael Steele up in NH during the primaries and she does has a head on her shoulders. Michael Steele must be talking some sense into her... All though she was and still is a Hillary supporter, maybe we can get her on board with the PUMAS!

Has anyone else noticed that whenever you hear Obama, he is whining? Republicans are attacking me, voters are bitter, economy is no good, war going poorly ...

Americans don't like whiners. They like Reagan-style optimism.

The Palin reaction is symptomatic of Obama's endemic Marxist negativism. He and his wife actually believed their leftist professors, and are trying for a "revolution" for evil America. I don't think voters will buy it.

Hmm. Obama also dismissed Iran’s potential influence/threat based on its size.

I see a pattern here, and it’s not the way a serious adult thinks.

“Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate was a governor.”

[They really need to stop the Jesus/Obama comparison, but they just can’t help themselves.]

What would Jesus do with $100 million from the Annenburg Foundation?

Kirsten, if that’s her real name, is OK, but why does she have to dye the roots of her hair dark?

I've been saying for a while now that they should replace Colmes on H & C with Kirstin. OTOH, scratch that, she may give the liberal argument some credibility to the gullible.

They can, again for the general election and to the DNC.

Thanks. Assuming you are correct, and there is no reason to assume otherwise, good to know. Plus they can funnel it through a friend or relative which would technically probably be illegal but hard no nearly impossible to prove. Plus it's chunk (is that the right word, I hear this all the time and sometimes think I am hearing chump?) change in the grander scheme of things. $2300 is a lot of money to me.

They are the most vocal hollering about WJWD. OK, here's my best guess. I don't see where any contribution was ever refused, but we aren't told all that he did. Judas was in charge of the money. One thing I think I can safely say the latter would NOT do with it is throw it on the temple steps.

I agree. Kirsten Powers has totally “grown-up” over the last four or so years. A total, and positive, transformation. Four years ago, I don’t believe she would have written an article like this.

THAT is a splendid observation. Says it all in a nutshell.

I like the sign that says McCain-Palin - Economics not Family and Friends!

So he wants us to vote for the candidate with suspect family and friends?

Obama’s attempt to compare himself to the Lord Jesus Christ is so far beyond ridiculous . . .

He is a lightweight, weakling, empty suit socialist who dares to compare himself with the King of kings and Lord of lords.
