Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain has gotten a jolt of support right where he wanted it - from the independent voters whom he courted so aggressively at last week's convention - and now holds a healthy lead over his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, in the chase for that key constituency.
A Gallup Poll to be released Tuesday shows that Mr. McCain's backing among independent voters jumped 12 percentage points in recent days, providing welcome news for a Republican candidate who has been torn between nurturing his maverick appeal to independents and trying to appease the party's conservative base...
...Compounding Mr. Obama's challenges, about 29 percent of former rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's backers - more than 5 million voters - say they will cast their ballots for Mr. McCain, according to pollster John Zogby.

You heard of the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?” Well, there are a hell of alot of scorned women on the Democractic side these days who want to see Obama take his “messiah” schtick on a very long walk off a very short pier. They are angry and McCain putting Palin on the ticket sealed the deal for many of them. Of course the cuties Trig and Piper didn’t hurt either :-).
Yes, there’s many Hillary supporters that are playing identity politics that will work for the GOP for a change.
They think all American women were dismissed by Barack Hussein Obama and that their former political party is hopelessly sexist. Many of them don’t agree with Palin’s views on abortion, but they’re looking past that issue.
The messiah brought this on himself, IMO - he should’ve actually tried to unite the jackass party rather than sneering at the supporters of the winner of the popular Democrat primary vote.
They probably respond well to being called nuts.
Yes, but dumping Biden would be a major admission of a BIG mistake... something that Obama cannot bring himself to do!!
The final tickets are set (Biden is getting nervous though) and everything is trending Republican. What kind of landslide puts the house of reps. in play?
I believe that to be a gross understatement of the facts. If you go to the Hillary Forum, you will get a better picture of how they feel. My best guess is 60% of Hillary's Gals are Sarah's now.
Zogby says 29% and 5 million Hillary! voters??
I would take 4 million, which translates into a net 8 million and a monster blowout. On YouTube the pumas made a video called, “We Will Not Be Silenced” documenting the rampant fraud and intimidation by Team Obama in the primaries.
It's that, and it's also that they're angry that their support of Hillary wasn't taken into account when the Obambi picked his VP.
Some women that supported Hillary did so because they were motivated by a woman attaining the highest office in the country. Their politics may even be conservative leaning, but that was the primary appeal.
Others are pro-choice, but don’t consider it a determinate factor when deciding where to place their vote. They could be conservative on other issues.
Then you have people bitter over the primary battle that hate Obama and would rather help McCain win even if it contradicts their philosophical beliefs 100%.
Still others who maybe don’t hate Obama, and are liberal, but the idea of a women being Vice President is intriguing to them. They are the ones most unlikely to vote McCain, but may flirt with the idea and not be terribly depressed if Obama loses.
The last group are rock solid liberals that may have preferred Hillary, but gender would never dissaude them from voting for the Dem ticket.
Palin can capture some of 1 and 2. Option 3 is debatable. I know online PUMA’s consider their ranks strong, but in practice I’m not sure how high it is. Yes, Hillary got 18 million votes. But some of them were men. Some were Republicans just screwing with the system. And the rest divide into the above groups and I’m not certain anyone ever broke down by what percentage in these polling companies.
Convoluted neophyte GOBBLDYGOOK !!
They can’t dump Biden. He was the one nominated and is on the ballot. That’s all there is to it.
Live by identity politics, die by identity politics...
Are you saying that they were TAKEN FOR GRANTED ?
I'm Shocked!
And the PUMA’s are very angry they didn’t get to vote for Hillary at their convention. Eavesdropped on thier thread the night our convention had the roll and they were livid. “Look, the Repubs actually get to cast their votes and no one tells them they can’t.” LOL
I think you are right!Obama would never allow Hillary on the ticket because of his arrogance. That is why this week he’s attacking Palin over and over. It is all about him being the center of attention and he is missing it. It could cause him many mistakes trying to capture it back! :D
Yep; the Hillary supporters are still on board.
The latest polls look good, but, my one, great concern is that the Obama camp has a grassroots effort that is registering new voters 5 days a week. The poll that really counts is the one on November 4. I’ll be honest with you; I’m nervous.
And this one too..!
Right you are.Fast eddy is a major clintoon supporter and I think he may just not be able to get the vote out this time.Just too bad huh?
