POST ENDORSES JOHN MCCAIN (The New York Post: "...we're in their corner to the finish.")
The New York Post ^ | September 8, 2008

POST ENDORSES JOHN MCCAIN

THAT'S THE TICKET: John McCain and Sarah Palin, here onstage at the Republican convention, offer the promise of sound economic, security and energy policies.

THE Post today enthusiastically urges the election of Sen. John S. McCain as the 44th president of the United States.

McCain's lifelong record of service to America, his battle-tested courage, unshakeable devotion to principle and clear grasp of the dangers and opportunities now facing the nation stand in dramatic contrast to the tissue-paper-thin résumé of his Democratic opponent, freshman Sen. Barack Obama.

McCain has been in Washington for many years now, but he is not of Washington. He knows where the levers of power are located - and how to manipulate them - but he is not controlled by them.

McCain's selection of the charming, but rock-solid, outsider Sarah Palin as his running mate underscores the point.

Neither plays well with others.

And this is an unalloyed asset at a time when special interests - lobbyists, lawyers and organized labor chief among them - wield enormous influence in the nation's capital.

McCain's Democratic opponents, Obama and Sen. Joseph Biden, lead a party constructed of special interests - public-employee unionists in particular.

The McCain List.

An early endorsement from the NY Post! It's good to see that not everyone is fooled.

America has a choice, voting for its Hero, or voting for a totaly un-American showbiz Hollywoody with a shady ‘group of friends’ around him.

If you can source the "fact" that the Slimes is shutting down their home delivery system please post it here and ping me.

This is news of EPIC proportions if true.

The bird-cage-liner's readership will dwindle down to next to nothing. Can you picture New Yawkers of all ages running to a newstand in the dead of winter every nasty, frigid morning just to buy this rag?

Since advertising income is dependent on numbers of readers, this is a sign that the Slimes is in the most dire of dire straits. It sounds terminal to me. I predict if the editorial clymers come out with an Obummer endorsement it will be the seal of doom, the nail in the coffers. We can only hope and pray.

This is almost too good to be true. If ANYONE can verify that there's be no more home delivery, PUHLEEEEEZE post a source and ping me!

Well, this is not exactly a big surprise. A much harder question is: Who will The Economist endorse, for example? In 2004, they already sank as low as endorsing John Kerry. Will they sink even lower this year?

Weird, I thought Murdoch owned the Post. Maybe he's planning to wage a fake "yellow kid" newspaper war between various papers he owns. In any case, many thanks, Stoat.

The NYT isn’t shutting down home delivery - they’re outsourcing the delivery of the paper to retailers.

Here’s the article:

Thanks for the info. I'm happy/sad I requested a source.

I knew it was too good to be true. I'm so sorry for the hundreds of delivery people losing their jobs due to this outsourcing. These poor schlumps are suffering from the sins of commission and omission of the Slimes management. I'll bet that little weasel shiite, Pinch-drunk Sulzberger gets his paper delivered on a silver platter every morning by his butler.

The NYSlimes is in its death throes.

"Who will The Economist endorse, for example?"

The Economist is a socialist publication, written by socialists for readers mostly in socialist Europe. They will find much to like about Obama.

Well, I used to think they’re only a bunch of misguided Keynesians. But perhaps that is not that much of a difference, after all. If they actually endorse a socialist like Obama, they will prove you right…

Ignore the paper and concentrate on the owner. Murdoch is a nuetral who has supported Hillary in the past. He owns the Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, and a host of other media properties. The Post can be denigrated as a racing form with a Soduku puzzle, but this is Murdoch’s preliminary announcement - and its fairly big.

If McCain sounds the right tones with the economy (long term response to Freddie May/Mac), look for the Wall Street Journal to weigh in as well.

And yes, this is definitely a sledgehammer to the head of Obama on a Monday morning.

No surprise here, and I expect McCain/Palin (God, I love writing that) to get the endorsement of the other NY tabloid, the NY Daily News. Though the News’ reporting is HEAVILY slanted left, their editorial page is more than fairly conservative.

The NY Sun is also conservative and will support McCain, but of course, the heavy hitter is the moribund NY Times.

Is this Murdoch or the editor...or both?

Endorsements normally are decided by the publisher, and written by the editor or the editorial page editor.
