>>I disagree. I think you underestimate the libertarian wing in the GOP.<<

There is strong libertarian sentiment in the Republican party but they tend to be practical rather than fanatci libertarians..and there is the recent lesson of Perot and Nader.

In a 50/50 nation, the party that splits most, loses.

I’d hoped McCain/Palin wins, and Paul formed a new guerilla wing of the Republican Party, one that is Ultra Conservative and would have enough credibility to challenge some of the DC shenanigans.

Unfortunately, Ron Paul's only interest is in challenging Republicans. I'd have more respect for the man if he ever attacked Obama.

Conservatives continue to disrespect libertarians at their own peril.

Kick a dog enough and it’ll bite you. And usually when you least expect it.

Looking through the media lens, its only a “major” announcement if Ron Paul endorses Obama. The guy is pro Democrat on foreign policy so I bet that’s what will happen. The media will play it up as evidence that McCain has lost the libertarian republican vote.

Of course then again I might be crazy!

Don’t knock the sneakers!
I have to wear high tops sneakers due to knee problem!

But I will knock Ron Paul as a person.
He’s a loon!

I don't know what Dr. Paul is trying to do here. With the nomination of Sarah Palin for VP, that pretty much has united the GOP. Even Palin has given her support to Paul during the GOP primaries.

I think it's too little, too late for Paul. The time to unite the Libertarian and Constitution parties was last year. Now both parties have become completely irrelevant with McCain's brilliant pick of Palin.

I think IMHO, this was planned out months ago. What the heck do I know, I’m just a jackass with a modem.

Paul was expecting McCain to nominate the liberal global warming alarmist, smoker banning Pawlenty.

It would have opened things up for him to make inroads with the libertarian wing of the party.

If McCain had nominated Pawlenty, I would have been volunteering and donating to the Constitution Party and voting for Baldwin. You too from the sound of it.

Not with Sarah on the ticket. McCain is a survivor. He’s been dead and buried 4 times and he always pulls a Houdini act. Sarah was his for us.

Conservatives continue to disrespect libertarians at their own peril.

Happens every election cycle. Republicans spend 4 years name calling and ignoring libertarian issues, and then they demand a vote.

I think, however, that your use of the word "conservative" is incorrect. It's party loyalists mostly, not conservatives.

I don't know what Dr. Paul is trying to do here.

He's not running. He has already said there's no chance of third party candidacy.

I think Paul is not interested in maintaining credibility.

Paul’s following is the anti-war crowd.

He hurts Obama worse than McCain/Palin.

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. But there is a palpable sense to me that that is not what you truly, deep-down inside believe. There are many anti-war republicans and conservatives. They're out there.

If Paul does run (and he won't, Paul's major announcement is something different) and gets 5% of the vote, and McCain loses by 1%, will you still say as much? I highly doubt it.

Oh yeah, until Palin, I know a number of conservatives who were going to vote either Libertarian or Constitutional Party. There is only so long you can continue to vote the lesser of two evils before it just gets to be too much.If the Republican Party is to once again be the party of Conservatism, then it had better start acting and voting like it.Example: the drill here drill now revolt started at the last break in congress, question is,Why did it take so freaking long?

“Happens every election cycle. Republicans spend 4 years name calling and ignoring libertarian issues, and then they demand a vote.”

And then stand around looking stupid when libertarians tell them to go jump in a lake.

“I think, however, that your use of the word “conservative” is incorrect. It’s party loyalists mostly, not conservatives.”

Those tend to be one and the same. If this rumor proves true, just stand back and watch the reaction on FR. The tone of this thread is a preview.

Plenty-o-lunatics to vote for this time around. *SMIRK*

Thanks you.

Just yesterday Barr was trying to have McCain and Obama thrown off the Texas ballot for not registering soon enough... wonder what will come of that?

Nothing..... They are on the ballot according to the SOS and I’m sure the electors have been made according the GOP party rules in TX at their State Convention earlier. The date is more aligned to give the state time to prepare ballots, get absentees ready for mailing, etc. etc. I wonder how many other states have deadlines like the one in TX that may have been missed with the late conventions?

In Texas we have seven listed as write-in candidates which includes some like Keyes/Nader/Baldwin/McKinney and others I’ve never heard of.
