House Republicans Still Protesting
AOL News ^ | Sept. 3, 2008 | Denise Williams

At a press conference given by some House Republicans a short time ago, we were reminded (and I had totally forgotten about it) that it has been 5 weeks since Speaker Nancy Pelosi gaveled the House of Representatives to a close for their summer vacation without giving Republicans an "up or down vote" on their energy bill. Republican Congresspeople have been taking turns going back to Washington to demand Pelosi reconvene and allow a vote for the sake of the American people.

Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio reiterated that their bill will provide Americans a more diverse supply of oil, add revenue to government coffers and generate $300 billion toward working to renewable sources of energy. Congressman Mike Spence (R-IN) insisted, "bring Congress back into session!" and "Say yes to giving Americans more oil".

Good for them. Let's not accept any half way measures. We need all the energy we can get. With an abundant supply of energy our costs will come way down. It would be like a pay raise.

Yes, I have been trying to follow it. I receive a news letter from my Congresswoman, and had wondered if she were keeping up with those Repubs. that are hanging on in Washington.

She is Virginia Foxx and she has been one of those taking her turn. Going to the Capital, meeting with tourists and from her letter she has enjoyed meeting with the “people”

North Carolina,5th district. Our former congressman is now our U.S. Sen. Burr. We are in the N.W.corner the state.

It's all about the issue, work out a compromise and do something.

At the Albuquerque event tonight, John looked out into the crowd and said “and yes, my friends, we’ll drill now” in obvious response to a Drill Now sign.

I was surprised to see homemade signs in the audience. I know at GWB rallies they were confiscated as opposed to being reviewed for content.

Good. Was wondering what happened to that event.
Unfortunately, it sounds like my concern happened: nothing is really coming of it. (...bringing me back to the cynicism that nothing was done when the pubbies were in charge, but now they want to do something under worst-case conditions (minority AND session adjourned).)

Keep it up, folks. This will be a strong card to play in the debates and in ads. In any tv ad use the clip that shows the House microphone & lights being turned off.

I don’t understand why this is being ignored. Have Rush or Hannity reported on this? I can’t listen during the day. Or the MSM (stupid question, no response required.)

It is an important statement, only known to the political junkies, like us.

The act was gaining momentum until Lyndsey Graham derailed it with his “gang of ten”
It reminded me of why I was mad at McCain.

With all the attention on the Palin smears, these brave people are being forgotten. They need our support.

[snip] But the Democratic energy bill will also include past provisions pushed by the party - but that failed to pass the House with the two-thirds majority required under the procedural rules that Democrats chose to use - including the “use it or lose it” provision and a release of oil from the strategic reserve.
