House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, under fire from U.S. bishops for comments she made about abortion, accepted on Friday an invitation from the Roman Catholic archbishop of San Francisco for a private talk.
Pelosi said in a letter to Archbishop George Niederauer that she'd "welcome the opportunity for our personal conversation and to go beyond our earlier most cordial exchange about immigration and needs of the poor to Church teaching on other significant matters."
The proposed meeting stems from comments Pelosi made Aug. 24 on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Yes, I agree. But I don't think she even realizes she has a problem. I wonder if she will argue with the Archbishop?
I wonder if she can find some designer sackcloth?
Here's hoping for a swift excommunication hearing!
Then bring Kerry and Biden in for the same.
Nancy should consider an Act of Contrition and an Act of Faith (auto de fe).
So, not just Madame Pelosi, but Madonna Pelosi as well?
Uh, Nance, I don’t think “do you know who I am” is gonna work this time. Next stop, ecclesiastical court.
Yeah, screw you, pal. You don’t know sh%t. Keep your bigoted uninforkmed crap to yourself.

That's one "conversation" I'd love to be a fly on the wall for.
It wouldn’t surprise me if she does try to argue the point and discuss whether Augustine was correct.
She is that arrogant.
She may have finally put her foot in her mouth so far that no surgeon can remove it. This outta be good!
I consider your statement uncalled for. Hold what faith you choose but please have the good sense not to attack that of others.
I believe it was a Jewish gentleman who said ‘Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all question.
So then what does the Archbishop do? (I don't know about Catholic doctrine on how these matters are handled.)
Hope he brings an Exorcist with him - maybe two. He’ll need them.
Why, so the Catholic Church's popularity rating can be as low as congress?
These matters aren’t open to question or opinion. If she refuses to acknowledge it and amend her behavior, she can be formally excommunicated.
Incidentally, this isn’t just because of her opinions, but because of her actions in voting for pro-abortion measures and also for her public role in promoting abortion and misleading the faithful by claiming it’s ok for a Catholic to do this. Presumably, the bishop would have to ask her to publicly renounce her positions. If she’s a political leader, she’s in a different position from just an average parishioner who needs to be privately counseled.
He should reiterate the fact that she has been excommunicated and that she must confess and repent in order to be in good standing.
There’s not much more he can do than to try to correct her privately, then publicly if necessary... along the lines of what the Bible instructs.
I was thinking something more along the lines of a wooden stake.
In the old days the Dominicans would have been involved in the discussion. I miss the old days. :o)
