This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.
Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage with dramatic effect, no doubt and tell the story.
What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags, a Republican official emailed. We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.
Im not sure what the DNC was supposed to do with unused hand-flags, frankly. But the Republicans are obviously questioning someones patriotism here

I’ve got one of those small flags on my desk hutch from a Dick Cheney speech here in the Quad Cities back in ‘99.
Probably got a half dozen or so. We reused them when Fred Thompson would swing by.

"Im not sure what the DNC was supposed to do with unused hand-flags, frankly. "
Patriotic people attending an event usually keep them and not throw them in the trash. I guess that tells me that waving those flags at Obama's convention was just for show.
Yep, Republicans pick up after themselves while Democrats leave a place looking like a Woodstock pigsty. Somebody else (ie., "the government") will come along and clean everything up.
Like the Styrofoam faux Greek columns, these objects are part of the set. They are only props. These were Democrats, they seldom have the flag in their dramas. Obama disdains to wear a flag pin for fear of upsetting his voters.
"The John Kerry quote comes in the epilogue to "The New Soldier," the book put out by Vietnam Veterans Against the War [VVAW]. The book's cover features a group of not-particularly sober-looking anti-war protesters (vets, presumably) flying the American flag upside down [while mocking the historic flag raising event at Iwo Jima]":

Note John Kerry's name at top right of The New Soldier
"We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans' Day waving small (American) flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the 'greater glory of the United States.' "
So John Kerry would have a difficult time marching with those waving small American flags yet had NO problems marching with those waving HUGE VIETCONG FLAGS?
"Pictured above: VVAW-supported demonstration during the Washington Spring Offensive, April - May 1971. Notice the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong flags."
Save an American Flag thrown away by the Democrats make a donation today!!
Don’t forget to add that the flag may be stained with pizza sauce.
McCain/Palin = Will rescue USA flags discarded by Democrats.
That about says it all.
But, but they care about the environment...as long as someone else is forced to do it. They care about the poor, as long as they don’t have to part with their own money. They need us to be forced by their liberal lobbied laws to be their slaves.
I was just thinking. They need to do a video montage of the flag.
The Marines at Iwo Jima comes to mind and the moon and at the twin towers. I know there are thousands out there that would invoke passion and loyalty. They ought to play the John Wayne thingie about the flag as they show it.
Exactly. Barack speaking in the background about how we are all patriots... images of Iwo Jima, 9-11, a folded flag, and trash bags of discarded flags.
Nice one. Worth a few days of Obama jibbering.
“What ever happen to Recycling and conservation?”
It’s ironic that the white piece with “cycle” visible in the one photograph was most probably “recycle”.
How hard is it to contact the VFW or another group that could have used these to decorate the graves of soldiers?
I thought this was supposed to be “the greenest convention ever”.
Better count the stars on those flags and make sure they don’t add up to 57.
I’ve posted this before. I watched the 2004 Dem convention on PBS. Gwen Ifill questioned the Dem delegates about their mass flag-waving. She reported that they told her they would do “whatever it takes” to get Kerry elected. So yeah, it is phony.
