More than Allen’s “inability” to address the macaca incident - he legitimized it.
He screwed-up BIG time, in a way I have seen few times over the course of my life. He absolutely legitimized a horrific attack against him, and never recovered.
He went from top Presidential contender to career over because of his bullheaded refusal to take on the issue, and instead hope he could, essentially, apologize for being a racist and hope that would be the end of it.
I always loved George Allen, but he proved that he was not ready for a promotion of any kind. He was never really ready for a challenged race of any kind.
This is, by definition, a crooked inquiry because it is led by a Dim. You can count on Dims to be crooked in everything they do, and especially when investigating a Republican.
Come on up!
Not only do you get paid training and some State employee benefits, they give you a real gun and about 60 gillion acres to cover - by yourself.
SO, when you go a village to arrest that nasty man for raping (his daughters/the neighbor/whoever/a bear) it's just you vs about 300 to 500 not so happy to see you villagers....
Oh, and you get paid less than the cops in any of the big cities, you get to live in wonderful places like Barrow (66 days of no sunlight and bars open all the time) or Bethel where even the city can't keep a Public Safety force.
My point? The job just plain sucks in a lot of the State and the state has a hard time keeping good Troopers - so folks who do an otherwise good/acceptable job, they are going to keep.
Wooten is by no means an example of a “good Trooper” but I am sure if we looked in the “L48” we could easily find worse..... See these stories

Note the role alcohol plays in the majority of reports.......
He's still on the job. He got a 10 day suspension, which the cop union got reduced to 5 days:
"The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession," Col. Julia Grimes, then head of Alaska State Troopers, wrote in March 1, 2006, letter suspending Wooten for 10 days. After the union protested it, the suspension was reduced to five days."
I’ve known for a long time that it isn’t an easy job, but I didn’t realize that you guys were so far behind the curve in pay. I guess that explains why he only got 5 days off and kept his job.
I’ve heard about having to fly into places to deal with problems and having to take an old-school approach to it all.
However, the public expects a certain level of integrity. We’ve had people come from neighboring states for more money, and we’ve had them leave for a better job elsewhere. I’ve seen too many guys who are sitting in a car supplied by the state, wearing uniforms supplied by the state, burning state gas, and getting paid while they sit around complaining how bad the job is.
If Alaska wants more troopers, then they’ll have to pay more or lower their standards. It sounds like they’ve done the latter.
They have not lowered standards, just make do with fewer folk.
WHich means bush Alaska get ‘less’ justice.
Did you read the Trooper reports?
Yep, I read some of them. I stopped after reading multiple alcohol-related offenses. Similar problems, just colder and more terrain to cover.
The Border Patrol has the same problem. Lousy working conditions and trouble getting new recruits. Qualified people are going to where the money is and the living is easier.
BINGO
Alcohol is not a problem in Alska - it is THE problems here.
Bethel has two cops, the others quit. If you want a 60 to 90 day gig, drop them a line. I understand Iraq vets are very welcome....
The Left is really really backing the wrong horse here. The question should be WHY was this guy allowed to be a cop despite his numerous unstable violent acts since 2001 until Palin finally brought the hammer down? Just who in the Alskan old boys club was protecting his corrupt butt? Could it be the police union boss in Alaska?
Palin deserves a medal. This guy was a menace and needed to be canned years ago.
...and he also threatened to ‘hurt’ Sarah. That was before she became governor. Once she became governor, such a threat became a security issue, similar to a threat against the President. To fill in some gaps, the record shows that this dirtbag was given to uncontrollable raging both personally and in his professional capacity, would call in sick or home with the kids when he was hung over, was caught by other troopers driving his 4-wheeler while intoxicated. Is there any doubt that a governor, who has oversight over the Troopers, would be concerned about his continued employment?
Issikoff...always a bitchboy
he was instrumental in the journalists meeting at Al Franken’s condo on the upper west side in 2004 where a group of lefty reporters colluded to get Kerry good coverage
