Post-Convention, Palin A Popular Draw At Rallies (More Sarah Factor Alert)
Newsday ^ | 9/06/2008 | Tom Brune

If there was any doubt that John McCain's surprise pick of Sarah Palin has grabbed the attention of many Republicans, Barbara Falk, a retiree born and raised in this quaint small town, put it to rest yesterday: "I came out to see her."

So did Falk's friend Pat Mantel, who said, "I do enjoy that vice president that McCain picked." And so did Mantel's sister Carol Eberhardt, a retired lab worker and single mother of three, who said, "She speaks my language."

A day after McCain gave what many critics panned as a flat acceptance speech, Palin proved to be a popular draw.

She energized a once-sparkless campaign in the McCain-Palin ticket's first two campaign stops after the Republican National Convention.

Crowds of people jammed streets for blocks around the downtown stage set up here for the GOP ticket - the campaign put out a crowd estimate, drawn from the area, of 12,000 (matching Cedarburg's population).

It would be a scene repeated yesterday afternoon in Sterling Heights, Mich., a Reagan Democrat stronghold.

This is amazing.... I can't recall a campaign that had a start like this! The Messiah is meeting his match in what I call the Sarah Factor! Whoo hoo!

This is the kind of response that wins elections--the people who can't be swayed by anything but their feelings about a person. No ad or speech is going to sway them.

George H. W. Bush couldn't speak well, Quayle was not a popular pick, but they won because people just didn't LIKE Dukakis.

Similarly, some voters could have huge disagreements with Palin, but so like the idea of her, and her persona, that they vote for McCain.

There's the old saw in politics that a bad pick can be a drag on the ticket... but a good pick can bring in votes for the guy atop the ticket. McCain made the right choice and it can only help him in a closely contested race!

I live in Tenn. which is pretty well sown up for national Republicans. I guess that Mrs. Palin won't be visiting us, and I'm really disappointed.

If they really like her, that could spell trouble for Obama - who's already begging Hillary to save his ass! The Left has hung itself!

I am really amused by how little comment Obama's call to the ladies to save him has received, though I shouldn't be. Talk about blinking first.

Obama is a terrible candidate. He's fine when the media love you and cover up your parade of misstatements, your babbling and stuttering, and you have celebs to love you and millions with which to buy nice stage sets and speech writers. But the man crumbles whenever confronted.

If you can't hold your own against the creampuff Bill O'Reilly, you're not good for much. And what happens when a strong woman dares criticize you? You scream for help from women who are a lot stronger than you are.

I recently checked out some polls from 2004, and it was in September when Bush took a clear lead. If McCain takes the lead within the next week and HOLDS it for a week or two, look for the REAL slime to start coming out, and I wouldn't be surprised if Average Joe came down with an average illness that requires a new VP be chosen.

Hillary is the exact opposite of what Sarah is. She’s abrasive, shrieky, presumptuos and mean. The only mean Sarah is is when she is defending her family against classless smears. That resonates.

Isn't that amazing? Palin will just accuse Obama and Biden of being afraid of her.

And of course Hillary wants to work soooo hard to get Obama elected for eight years.

McCain has all the appropriate creds and gravitas, but Palin is overshadowing him bigtime when it comes to charisma and excitement. She has a killer smile that lights up the place and, unlike Obama, she exudes genuineness from every pore. When you add to that the fact that she’s right on virtually every issue, she is one compelling package, the most exciting conservative I’ve seen since Reagan.

Dispatching her to our state where McCain was already leading by a commanding margin prior to the pick is a colossal waste of time. She’s got to go where she can turn votes in swing or Dem lean states (such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc).

Men in particular - white men - don't like a wimp. Hiding behind women's skirts is NOT guaranteed to win Obama white men's votes, which was the whole point of the Biden pick. No man likes a guy who can't stand up for himself. And without male votes, Obama will lose this election. Women are also turned off by an insecure man.

How long has it been since we have heard “Women and other minorities?” I ask the question because in spite of women being more numerous than men, the left wing, with the help of the media made that “equation” mainstream.

Obama and every Democrats' problem is with men. The problem is, he is not a man. McCain is a man. And there's just no contest. The American people can see already when faced with a crisis, he throws in the towel and leaves it up to other people to save his bacon for him. That will not work for a President!

Coldwater, why don’t you just pack a bag and make a trip to where McCain and Palin WILL be speaking! Make a sign telling them where you came from, and work your way right up front so they will be sure to see you. Tell people handling the campaign too, who you are and how far you travelled. What a memory that would be! They are bound to give you special attention because you travelled from out of state to see and hear them — bet you could persuade some family or friends to go with you! If you do, make sure you let the news media know too because it would help the GOP get good publicity, and encourage other people to follow your lead

Just a thought....

That exactly where she's going... to swing states with blue collar Reagan Democrats. They will turn out for her!

Great Idea. I think that Missouri is the closest state that might be in question. Or, maybe Illinois.
