Three major advocates of abortion rights are planning to spend nearly $30 million to defeat John McCains run for president, citing his new running mate as the core reason.
NARAL Pro-Choice America, Planned Parenthood and EMILYs List have Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) in their crosshairs, calling her a staunch opponent of abortion rights.
This is the most anti-choice ticket in history of the Republican Party, said Beth Shipp, the political director of NARAL. McCain put someone as outside the mainstream as you can on his ticket, which is Sarah Palin, Shipp added.
Hoping to drive a wedge between the pro-life GOP base and party centrists who favor abortion rights, NARAL Pro-Choice America plans to raise and spend $10 million to communicate to voters in 34 to 35 congressional districts and battleground states. The group is also targeting independents.
Planned Parenthood, another liberal group, plans to spend $10 million on its One Million Strong campaign, an effort to mobilize pro-choice voters in battleground states, said spokesman Tait Sye.
And EMILYs List, a group that backs female Democratic candidates who support abortion, will spend nearly as much as the other groups on its Women Vote! program.
The McCain campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
NARAL sent out an alert to more than 500,000 of its supporters immediately after Sen. McCain (Ariz.) chose Palin as his running mate. The alert highlighted Palins opposition to abortion in cases of rape or incest.
The Planned Parenthood campaign began in January and will pick up intensity in the wake of Palins selection.

My Grandma sells cheap prophylactics
She punctures the end with a pin.
My Grandpa does the abortions.
Look how the money rolls in.
These groups have won many battles, only because Conservatives have allowed them to frame the terms of battle and allowed them to fight within the constructs of their own paradigm.
There is no such thing as pro-choice or anti-choice. There are only pro-abortionists and pro-lifers. If Palin were to make an exception in the case of rape or incest, she would be a hypocrite. A life is a life and if you are pro-life, I am not sure how you can make a distinction in one innocent from another.
As horrible as the crimes of rape and incest are, I am just not sure how destroying two innocents makes things any better. I know well, this is all easier written than lived, nor do I intend to seem callous in my observations. I can only imagine how someone would feel to be pregnant as a result of rape or incest.
I think what is truly callous is thinking that removing the “offending tissue” is the solution. If women do not want to become pregnant, they make many choices or pass up many before doing so. The exception here is in the case of rape or incest. Sarah Palin has not chosen the most politically expedient position to be sure. It is my opinion, however, the right position.
oh that last post is CLASSIC!!!!
That friend of hers has had an abortion.
She knows it was wrong, that she killed a baby.
She could have taken the repentence route, but instead, chose the justification route.
She’s justifying her action with her “belief” that she did nothing wrong, and that all women should have this “choice”.
She’ll continue damaging her soul by encouraging others to kill their babies if they are inconvenient or imperfect.
As good of an issue as any over which to draw a line in the sand.
Wow...this news is totally unexpected.
I disagree. Prolifers such as me who would allow a rape exception, are squarely allied with those who would not. It will be a fine day if we are left arguing this detail after Roe v. Wade is overturned and/or abortion is made illegal.
Shoot away you evil little twits the more the better.
I’ve found that to be very true usually the louder they sceam about their rights the most likely they have already done it once or more. I guess it must be some reflex to not allowing themselves to ever feel guilty? Really sad and amkes me wonder just how much it really bothers their conscience?
>>McCain put someone as outside the mainstream as you can on his ticket<<
NARAL thinks it’s “mainstream?” LOL, we need a cartoon.
Did NARAL represent at the Dems convention?
I’m thinking maybe NARAL is so far out of the mainstream that the Dems were hiding them from Americans.
The guilt is real.
Every human has the same God-given understanding of what is right and wrong.
“Conscience” is actually “conviction”. Sarah Palin, by her example, is convicting a lot of people who want to believe that evil is good.
The reason these people are so vehement, and so upset about it is that they KNOW they can’t get right with God without admitting that what they did was wrong and asking forgiveness. It is such an abhorrent thing that it has to be a huge burden, and then if you’ve compounded it by justification and encouragement of others to do it... I can’t imagine the guilt. It would definitely lead to depression.

And they say the economy is bad? people can come up with 30 million dollars to fight for the right to kill babies, then I gotta think the economy really is not much of an issue............
I can’t understand how the liberal mind works.
Liberals fought for the rights of frogs and then the same people who fought for the rights of a frog, turn around and fight to keep killing their own kind. It’s nuts!
You should seriously consider becoming a speech writer-excellent post!!!!
The attacks will fail.
Sarah will prevail.
God bless this woman.
They are, simply put, quite nuts.
