Ann and Nancy Wilson are p*ssed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."
The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

How bout just switching to the Reno 911 version?
(Any Reno fans here...?)
True-- music comes out of emotion, and artists fit their reasoning to their feelings. See John Lennon's "Imagine" for a good example.
It also helps to be at least a little crazy to be an artist, don't you think?
Well, I guess they won’t be headlining at the Inauguration Ball in January!
It was Mama Cass that reportedly died from choking on a ham sandwich. She actually died from a heart attack due to obesity.
Surely someone DID know, and DID get permission. Permission comes from ASCAP, upon the payment of royalties. You'll notice their complaint is NOT that the RNC didn't pay royalties. Their complaint is that it was used at all. That's why they have to whine to have their WISHES respected - their RIGHTS have been, or they'd be threatening to sue.

Lyrics to Baracuda:
So this aint the end -
I saw you again today
I had to turn my heart away
Smiled like the sun -
Kisses for real
And tales - it never fails!
You lying so low in the weeds
I bet you gonna ambush me
Youd have me down down down down on my knees
Now wouldnt you, barracuda?
Back over time we were all
Trying for free
You met the porpoise and me
No right no wrong, selling a song-
A name, whisper game.
If the real thing dont do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooh, barracuda?
Sell me sell you the porpoise said
Dive down deep down to save my head
You...i think you got the blues too.
All that night and all the next
Swam without looking back
Made for the western pools - silly fools!
If the real thing dont do the trick
No, you better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooohhhh, barra barracuda.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.
They don’t own the song, Capitol Records is the copyright clamiant on the song.
So f***** them!
Too bad. I used to like Heart.
The rights for public performance of the song are licensed through ASCAP, anyone can play the song at a gathering as long as the ASCAP fee is paid. And, it’s very likely that the Auditorium already pays a yearly ASCAP and BMI license so any performance in the building would already be covered.

Let’s see.....it is ok for conservatives to buy their crap. I think these wacko entertainers should label their music, with warnings, stating that it is meant to be heard by liberals only.
When I was in corporate, I dealt with this issue of using music at our big "town hall" meetings. Our intellectual property lawyer told me that what they do is buy bulk rights from the big two music licensers, ASCAP and BMI, which lets you use anything in their catalog, which is pretty much every song out there.
As far as I know, they don't need the band's permission. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my understanding. Can people who've been in the business for 30 years not know how the business works? Or am I wrong?
I’m sure ZZ Top, Metallica, Megadeth or Ted Nugent will be happy to provide a soundtrack.
That’s my understanding as well. Can Heart really not know how the business works after 30 years?
Ah, shoot. I thought they were smart. But, I guess not. This was giving them more publicity than American Idol!
It was so great to have that song for Sarah! Too bad for everyone.
I am so sick of aging, leftist rockers ginning up a little publicity by pitching a fit every time a Republican plays one of their dusty oldies, as if Midwestern Republicans weren't the only people alive who actually still listen to Heart, Jackson Browne or John Cougar Melonhead anymore.
Well, Ann and Nancy, you paragons of tolerance, I'm going to make your day. I own and/or write four syndicated radio prep services that are used by over 700 stations, many of them top-rated in their markets. On Monday, I'll be sure to run this story and strongly urge them to yank all Heart music from their playlists and tell their listeners why. After all, some of their listeners might be eeeeeeeeevil Republicans, and we wouldn't anyone listening to your music who wasn't in complete lockstep with all your crackpot political ideas, now would we? You're welcome.
It’s a pity. Now few people will ever hear it.
I’ve heard Gretchen Wilson perform “Barracuda” live. Maybe they should get a live recording of Gretchen singing the song. That’s chap Ann Wilson’s big fat hide.
Those are the lyrics? They ought to put down the crack pipe.
