Palin Nabs Highest '08 Broadcast TV Convention Ratings (more than for 0bama's acceptance speech!)
TVWeek ^ | September 04, 2008 | By Andrew Krukowski

Posted on 09/04/2008 8:11:32 AM PDT by library user

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech during Wednesday night’s Republican National Convention bested Democratic speeches from Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and, in some cases, Barack Obama in preliminary ratings.

Speaking last night, along with former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Gov. Palin took in a 5.4 rating/8 share on NBC, according to preliminary overnight household data from Nielsen Media Research, measuring 55 markets across the United States.

In terms of this year’s conventions, the preliminary rating for NBC’s coverage last night is higher than any other night of the convention on the broadcast networks, including Sen. Obama’s nomination acceptance speech on Aug. 28.

However, the ratings are preliminary and are subject to change.

ABC averaged a 4.0/6, up more than a full ratings point against the DNC’s third day, and CBS scored a 3.1/5, beating its previous Wednesday coverage by 29%.

If all else fails, Palin could move Couric off to pasture.

Higher ratings than the messiah?? Wow.

The air is leaking out of the Obama balloon at an alarming rate.

The first number is the % of households watching, the second one is the % of TV sets in use at that time that are tuned in to the referenced program.

I don’t know what the current household number is, somewhere around 115-120 million.

"Thank you Lord."

Your post got me thinking about the choice of Sarah Palin, her debut with John McCain the other day, and her inspired speech last night....all incredible gifts to us who are living nervously in hope and faith for the future of our country.

......and I took a moment to send up a humble prayer in thanks to the Lord for the miraculous events of this past week.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. Now we can ROLL, Amen!

I loved the speech. She did an outstanding job.

I heard a demoratic critic say her speech was divisive. I think it is divisive when the rats say McSame.

If you ask me, the rats have been divisive for a very long time. They said no and obstructed everything the Republicans tried to do before they got power in 2006.

All the rats have done since 2006 is get a very strong nine percent approval rating. The only good thing is Nine Percent has the same initials as Nancy Peloser. HEY!! Nancy ‘Nine Percent’ Peloser. There is a new name for me to use.

It is the job of a demorat to be divisive. It is what they do best. And when you fight back, they call you divisive. I wish the American people were as sick of this kind of politics as I am.

Zerobama has tried to tie her to Bush. That seems to be the lib spin today. What really gets me is that the media has been allowed to set the perception of this country and President Bush. Their consesus is the country is in a depression, people are hurting blah blah blah. Everybody hates Bush and America blah blah blah. Even FNC does it. No one ever questions it. I question their consesus! I don’t believe it. Sarah Palin was openly proud of her country last night. She didn’t seem to think America is so bad and I just loved it. Huckabee went into the soup line America speech for awhile but managed to pull out of it and deliver a really good speech. I wish our party would point out some of these things and stop running from them. The media defined Bush and now we find ourselves running from him. This has to be hard for Pres Bush being dissed by his own party. I think he did bring a lot of it on himself by never defending himself, though. Its hard to respect and defend someone who let himself become a doormat.

Exactly, I knew she was going to beat the Fauxbama numbers, the press went absolutely insane rabid. There need to be so in the tank for Fauxbama ensured that more people were going to watch her speech than otherwise would have. I was loving every minute of their insanity, and now, people who never would have turned on the RNC convention, not only tuned into watch, but many have now decided to back McCain/Palin who otherwise would not have.

Thanks MSM, you are living proof that creame is not the only bovine product that floats.

Funny seeing Barry yesterday in rural Ohio bloviating to a contrived crowd of the 30 bitter town losers. I mean he looked like a total as* clown with his squared toed shoes and metrosexual getup trying to get all down home with the white folk. Like a guy who broke down outside of town looking for a tow truck. Nice strategy there Barry,

Thanks for the info.....

Anyone know how many millions of viewers that translates into?

More than Obama’s 38 million I guess.....

That’s fabulous news — it means there are probably millions out there who have just been converted to the McCain/Palin ticket or at least considering them more favorbably..... and it will make it hard for the MSM to avoid covering her closely in the next 2 months since she is obviously such a phenomenon, though of course there will be plenty of attacks and snarkiness.

Anyone know how to determine whether this will be the “most watched VP acceptance speech” in history? Or did more people tune into the conventions back in the old days??

A video of Palin's entire speech is available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKgNrb3baNM

(((GVnana)))!!!! Thanks for the link! Bookmarked!

I must say, my roommate is originally from Alaska, and still has family there...so they know who this woman is...they were very pleased. I am a hockey guy (but not parent) in addition to an American male conservative Republican Christian (though Christian is my name), and I was shouting for joy - in El Segundo, CA. I am so pleased, and can't wait for the VP debate on October 2.

The MSM only has themselves to blame for hyping up Palin with all of the stories about her family issues, it definately helped to fuel the ratings.

Hanged on the gallows they built for Sarah Palin. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch.

If the MSM and Dems hadn’t gone berserk over trying to destroy Sarah Palin, not that many would have been watching.

Well, sure. Anybody who is the kind of tabloid trash the MSM was talking about is worth tuning in to watch. A spectacular backfire for them. ;)

I saw this on FoxNews this morning. The woman in charge of the teleprompter said it was broken when she first started her speech but by the time the applause died down it was back up. But I read also that they were having trouble keeping it where it should be because of all the applause interruptions. Mostly she did it all on her own and with the help of some last minute written notes.
