Steyn's Short Take [on Palin and the Media]...
NRO CORNER ^ | Sept 4, 2008 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 09/04/2008 5:38:42 AM PDT by RobFromGa

Credit where it's due [Mark Steyn]

I would like to thank the US media for doing such a grand job this last week of lowering expectations by portraying Governor Palin - whoops, I mean Hick-Burg Mayor Palin - as a hillbilly know-nothing permapregnant ditz, half of whose 27 kids are the spawn of a stump-toothed uncle who hasn't worked since he was an extra in Deliverance.

How's that narrative holding up, geniuses? Almost as good as your "devoted husband John Edwards" routine?

I trust even now Maureen Dowd is working on a hilarious new column mocking proposed names for the Governor's first grandchild. Perhaps Richard Cohen can just take the week off and they can rerun his insightful analysis comparing the Palin nomination to Caligula making his horse a consul. Whereas we sophisticates all know that if McCain were as smart as Obama he'd have nominated a dead horse to be his consul. No wait...

Send reporters out? YOu must be kidding. The people know nothing, nothing at all.

Sounds like a veiled shot at the demented dowager, Peggy Noonan.

How many times do you have to smack a liberal newsreader in the head with a 2 x 4 until they develop humility, insight and commn sense?

No one knows - its never happened yet.

Most of the old timey Mizzou Democrats could be counted as conservative. They called themselves Democrats because that’s what their Daddy was...

ERic, what you say about Truman is so very true...if running today for VP...he wouldn’t be a Dem, for sure.

I’m as pumped as anyone after that speech last night but I don’t think anyone should underestimate the liberals or the media.

they are many things - but not stupid. you can see it already this morning - she got great traction by positioning not only the dems but the east coast media elite as her opponents as well.

i believe that the media sees that and most of the main stream media will soften their criticim “just enough” to not let themselves be used as a pawn in this race.

Yeah they talk about the teleprompter a lot because they know ob can’t speak without one, ergo they want it to look like Sarah can’t either.

Mort is not a rabid lefty and is generally pretty reasonable, although every once in a while he comes out of left field. I guess I would say I would agree with him about 60% of the time, as opposed to agreeing with Fred Barnes and Charles Krauthammer about 90%-95% of the time.

Sandra Palin has more class brains savvy grace than all the liberal media babes put together. They are jealous of her. Subconsciously they resent this woman who can raise five children and have a career at the same time

To generalize-— The liberal big city babes think about themselves too much. They are low energy and can’t handle even one child (a generalization)

Sarah’s secret is she has few “female issues” to ruminate all day long. She serves her family and Alaska. She can do this because she is
—very high energy
— I’ll bet she sleeps 4 hours tops
-— very good health
-— was running six miles per day before latest baby
-— SUPERIOR ATTITUDE
-— POSITIVE ATTITUDE

Dear Charlie:

I have watched one of your shows since you have been on the air. I find you to be a pompus. elitist gasbag. I have no use for you, your type or others that tell me what I should feel and do not report the story to me. You and your kind a are dying breed and this election will speed your deaths.

Oh and I do hate the media.

Sincerely,

Mad

I watched Charlie Rose last night post speech. His round table of newsie experts was obviously impressed, even blown away by Sarah, most could not believe that people actually hate the media. Rose, the consummate elitist jerk, was incredulous. They hate us? HAHAHAHAHA

Charlie Rose is small town too and humble beginnings. He took a different route. You got him pegged exactly. Worst thing is he's such an obvious alkie or semi-alkie and it affects his show. He's fast becoming a drunken old fool. Oh, a few decades ago he was a handsome devil cutting a wide swath through the charmed womanhood of NYC. But now the dissipation has set in

Charlie Rose was born in Henderson, North Carolina, as a son of Margaret and Charles Peete Rose, Sr., tobacco farmers who owned a country store.[2] As a child, Rose lived above his parents' store in Henderson and helped out with the family business from age seven. A high school basketball star, Rose entered Duke University planning on majoring in pre-med, but an internship in the office of Democratic North Carolina Senator B. Everett Jordan got him interested in politics. Rose graduated in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in history. He earned a Juris Doctor from the Duke University School of Law in 1968. Rose also attended New York University Stern School of Business.

The MSM isn’t the only game in town.

It occured to me that Reagan - a president loved by Americans, and despised by the media, who won reelection in a landslide - didn’t have the powerful alternative media.

He was totally up against a few hostile networks and newspapers who had a lustre of authority and objectiveness that has since peeled away over the past 10 years.

Palin has today’s much changed media landscape to work with.

Funny thing is that’s probably what William Jefferson Clinton was saying, too!
