Monica Crowley: She's Not Voting 'Present' ( Sarah Palin )
humanevents.com ^ | 09/04/2008 | Monica Crowley

The liberal media has no idea what to do with John McCain's running mate, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin. If they attack her for being "inexperienced," they remind everyone that the dude at the top of the Democratic ticket was rubberstamping the corrupt Daley machine in Chicago 3 years ago. If they attack her for being "too conservative," they risk pointing out that the dude at the top of her ticket isn't the love of most conservatives' lives and is quite palatable to independent voters. If they attack her for being "weak on foreign policy," they again raise the specter of a Democratic presidential candidate completely unversed in foreign affairs; so much so that he admitted as much when he selected Joe Biden as his running mate. If they attack her persona, her clothes, her hair, her eyeglasses, they run the risk of piling on a woman and having Hillary (of all people!) rush to her defense.

The Democratic ticket and their wingmen in the media are at a loss for what to do with her.

Palin's first mission accomplished: she has utterly vexed the opposition.

That's no small thing.

Palin has another secret weapon that the other three people running for president and vice president do not have:

She is the only one who has actually run something.

John McCain led bravely and selflessly during his time in the Navy, which is not to be discounted. But since that time, he has spent his adult life in the U.S. Senate. Ditto Joe Biden. Barack Obama has been a state legislator and briefly a U.S. senator. Hillary Clinton -- for all of her ballyhooed "experience" -- is also a senator. The only thing she ever ran was health care reform, which ended in disaster.

It was fascinating if disgusting to watch the media and the left (OK the same thing) search and grope for a fulcrum point so they could engage the usual attack lever.

When they couldn’t find it their juvenile tantrum was even more interesting.

It was funny to watch Andrea Mitchell’s hands shaking this morning when they were discussing Palin’s speech. A left-winger made some points about Biden’s experience bloviating about foreign policy, and she was able to regain her composure.

Media coverage has been amusing. Obama gives a speech and 97% of the pundits praise his intonation, his word choice, what he put in, what he left out, his body language, his facial expression, the way he walks, the way he entered, the way he exited -- Brother, it's ALL good!

Palin comes out of nowhere and delivers a stunning speech and the pundits are struggling to find something -- ANYTHING -- negative to say.

But there's no bias.

“search and grope for a fulcrum point”

The best they will be able to do will be to run ads of MLK as a community organizer. But, then, ZER-O cannot claim he has produced any results as one other than helping ACORN produce illegal voter registrations.

Didn't he actually manage a Navy unit which was not small either?

Here’s a story, part of this narrative - check out the Yupik culture and learn more about the first dude. No wonder he’s so comfortable juggling three careers and five children with his beautiful wife.

It needs to be said over and over - he was editor of the Harvard Law Review but he wrote no articles. I’m willing to bet that’s unheard of.

Obama’s 3 a.m. call:

Chicago is on fire and the firefighters need the help of the National Guard.

Caller: Should we deploy the National Guard, President Obama?

Obama: Present.

Caller: Yes or no?

Obama: Present.

Repeat until the caller hangs up.

He was the commanding officer of one of the largest squadrons in the navy, a training command, IIRC. He left it in much better shape than he found it and is loved by his men. Hopefully, he will include a reference to this example of his leadership tonight.

Maybe we can correct that some four years down the road:

The only thing I see wrong with your post in #13 is that they don’t call the President when they want to send in the National Guard - they call the GOVERNOR!
