ST. PAUL, Minn. - Barack Obama has struggled for 18 months to lock down the support of a traditionally Democratic group, Jewish voters.
In the past week, John McCain may have helped Obama with his Jewish problem by choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.
(snip)
But Democrats hope Palin's social conservatism, her paper-thin record on Israel, and - perhaps most importantly - her cultural roots in evangelical Christianity may be a major turnoff to Jewish voters, just as Republicans have tried to reach women disappointed that Obama didn't choose Hillary Clinton,
(snip)
There is almost always an inverse proportion between a candidate's popularity among conservative Christians and secular Jews - said Jeff Ballabon, a Republican lobbyist long active in Jewish politics who supports McCain.
An illustration of that gap came just two weeks ago, when Palin's church, the Wasilla Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus.
(snip)
Palin was in church that day, Kroon (her pastor) said, though he cautioned against attributing Brickner's views to her.
The executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, Ira Forman, cited the "cultural distance" between Palin and almost all American Jews."
"She's totally out of step with the American Jewish community," he said. "She is against reproductive freedom - even against abortion in the case of rape and incest. She has said that climate change is not man-made. She has said that she would favor teaching creationism in the schools. These are all way, way, way outside the mainstream."
Huffington Post on Tuesday posted portions of Palin speaking at her former church, a politically conservative Assemblies of God congregation, in which she suggested that an Alaska pipeline plan reflects God's will.

Check out the Jewish flag in her office! http://alaskapodshow.com/index.php/2008/02/20/my-visit-to-juneau-alaska/
I have a picture of her in a Chabad synagogue plus she already met with AIPAC and all is well. This is nothing other than poop-disturbing media hype.
Dream on.
In the meantime, however, theres simply little information available about Palins views.
But that won't stop the writer from spending gallons of cyber-ink opining about it.
Shes totally out of step with the American Jewish community, he said. She is against reproductive freedom even against abortion in the case of rape and incest. She has said that climate change is not man-made. She has said that she would favor teaching creationism in the schools. These are all way, way, way outside the mainstream.
Now we're talking. Its not about jews or Israel. His problem is simply abortion, gay rights, global warming. Nothing to do with her Christian beliefs or anything to do with jewish beliefs. He's a typical socialist, and not even a particularly original thinker which among socialists wouldn't be appreciated anyway.
Perhaps a few African mosques too.
I remember the my next door neighbor, Rabbi Rosenbaum’s son describing them thus when we were kids: “Reformed Jews. They’re reformed from being Jews.”
Maddow of Moscow?
Rim shot. ;-)
Alas .. true.
Me: I dont know, if the theory were known, it wouldnt work any more.
Dad: OK.

LOL!!!
It’s ok to disagree with me wardaddy. You’re sharing your view, opinion and experiences with me.
Now, I’ll only very briefly share mine.
Since 9/11, the Jews I have met online are pro GWOT, pro WOT and appreciate this born-again Christian conservative who supports the Jews right to exist and Israel to exist as a country.
They are not intimidated by me.
I am not intimidated by them.
Again, very briefly, after 9/11, Jewish people who understand the history of the Holocaust and the history of 9/11 appreciate people like me.
I glossed over a lot, but anyway back to Palin; there’s a lot more Jewish support for her than the media lets on.
Finally, liberals (no matter what religion they are) will most likely not care for Palin. She’s pro-life and that is what liberals fear most.
that is correct about abortion.
isn’t it sad and disturbing how for so many on the left, the right to kill another 50 million babies often much like the one Sarah had on the podium tonight must continue unfettered for the Left.
I think that is why you see a lot of Orthodox and some Conservative Jews having jumped ship.
Yes, and I agree.
I was one of those Jews..until I actually started going to the Church..I try to explain to my more jaded friends what really goes on...but old notions die hard.
I didn't realize that the American Jewish community was a Borg-like communist voting bloc.
cogent....your concise post was better than my ramble downthread from yourn
If Judaism is just a synonym for liberalism, then, definitely, she is out of step.
You need to interpret news items like these through the liberal media code-word decoder. Otherwise you may get confused when a MSM source calls a black conservative "not really black", or calls a woman "not in touch with women across America"
Here is a short list:
Let's look at that quote again: "She's totally out of step with the American Liberal community," he said. "She is against reproductive freedom - even against abortion in the case of rape and incest. She has said that climate change is not man-made. She has said that she would favor teaching creationism in the schools. These are all way, way, way outside the liberal mindset."
See? Now it makes perfect sense.
Lefty Jews I know are seizing on out-of-context snippets attributed to churches close to the the Palins as an excuse to stay with the big Zer0. It’s strange, sick and disturbing.
“...Palin speaking at her former church, a politically conservative Assemblies of God congregation, in which she suggested that an Alaska pipeline plan reflects God’s will.”
Does this reflect AoG theology or just some news flash from God to Palin alone?
