Excerpts: Remarks by Alaska Governor Sarah Palin Vice Presidential Nominee to Address the 2008 Republican National Convention

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - This evening Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican Party’s vice presidential nominee, will address the 2008 Republican National Convention. Excerpts from the governor’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, are below.

On her experience as a public servant:

"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities."

On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:

"I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:

"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems - as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

On John McCain:

"Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Before Barack was in the Senate, he was a community organizer. I’m not sure what they do exactly.

They ring doorbells, hand out money or other goodies in exchange for votes. In short, they are Ward Heelers!

People are really sort of bored with Barry. He’s overexposed and yesterday’s news. The networks better not mess with the technology to attempt to sabotage Sarah’s speech. People will know if they do.

I wonder whether Sarah Palin has ever been to FR. If so,then great; if not, then I hope she finds us because she needs to know how much support she has among the real people who make America what America is all about.

I would have campaigned and voted for John McCain even if he selected Romney, because I truly believe that Obama is both dangerous and evil. McCain's selection of Sarah Palin, however, means that I can support McCain without holding my nose, and the mere fact, that he had the balls to select her, makes me believe that he is a person that I can trust even if I we don't see eye to eye on many issues.

I am 49 years old, and I have to go back to the Hon. Clarence Thomas to find such hatred among liberal democrats and their shills in the MSM. Yet, I honestly believe from the bottom of my heart that the descendants of Reagan democrats will emerge as Palin Democrats and McPalin will win buy a landslide.

Yes. Her coattails will be the deciding factor in getting both houses back to the GOP. Watch and see. Energy is just as vital as defense for the security of the nation.

Note how Bush hit high in 04 while the Swiftboaters came out with 527s.

The Swiftboaters hit low????

Telling the truth about the candidate's claims is not hitting low. Lieing about your opponent (or the family) is hitting low. I hope you haven't bought into the idea (even though it is the common definition by the DBM) that Swiftboating involves a republican lieing about his opponent.

No spiking of her speech tonight by any of the channels - ratings talk! This speech will have a HUGE audience glued to her every word.

I predict this will be the most highly watched speech of either convention, if not of any convention ever.

Obama touts his resume as a "Chicago community organizer" ( she hinted no responsibilities).

Is it possible you could have misread my post so badly? My point was directed at giving the media an advance look to facilitate their instant analysis. Let Olbermann and Matthews listen to the speech and not spend the forty minutes sharpening their knives. I’ll wait on your apology.

FWIW:
My wife did not know who she was until the weekend. Now my wife refers to her as “Sarah” - first name only!

Sorry if I offended. But it seems to me that 527s might be the best way to nail BO. That’s all I’m trying to say. I don’t expect McCain to embrace Jerome Corsi any more than Bush did.

I don’t know if anyone ever goes to the site www.fark.com . It is a site that has many news links during the day and people comment on them. The site kind of caters to the under 30 crowd(which I am unfortunately no longer a member of) and the comments have always tilted for the most part to the left. Ever since Sarah Palin was chosen these people have become absolutely rabidly unhinged. The are several posters on there that I have chatted with for years who have completely gone off the deep end. This is not a political site, but does comment on political news stories. My only fear is that there are too many like them out there.

On a positive note, my wife and mother-in-law, who are both very nonpolitical, are literally getting pi$$ed off at the treatment the media is giving Gov. Palin. They will both be voting for McCain, and my mother in law told me that she probably would have voted for Hillary.

Her speech is going to leave me speachless. I don’t feel for any of the media yapping heads when the WORLD hears Sarah pull their pants down and show what pantywaists they really are. I think I’ll move to Chicago and vote 5times.

I have a feeling this speech is going to decide the election.

I hope you are right! I think she can do it too!
