After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.
"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.
"The most qualified? No. I think they wen tfor this-- excuse me -- political bullshit about narratives," she said. "Everytime Republicans do that -- because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."
Murphy chimed in:
"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."
In today's Wall Street Journal, Noonan was warmer to Palin, whom she wrote "could become a transformative political presence."
"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."
Since filing, Noonan has apparently decided which side this one is coming down on.
I stopped liking her soon after I switched party alliances in 2003. I recognized she was supposed to be conservative and at the same time I saw she was pandering to the left. It is fine to reveal that people who share your ideology might not be perfect, but I saw her being more critical than helpful. I can't believe she is still tolerated.
Olbermann will probably welcome murphy back on now.
My husband and I have a technical meeting involving our church choir tonight - a guest performer is leading the music on Sunday, and we need to figure out how to connect his equipment into our sound system (in Spanish). We should be home in time to show and do some calisthenics before Michael Steele comes on at 9:00 Eastern, and we can make a pot of coffee if necessary.
Note to Peggy - It ain’t over til its over. I applaud McCain for this pick and he’ll stick by her come hell or highwater. Unlike Peggy and her cocktail party friends McCain would die rather than throw Palin under the bus. I think people in the heartland realize how one-sided the media has been. Obama has an endless corps of servile sycophants in the press. How any person with self-respect could pile on a pregnant seventeen year old is beyond my comprehension. Kinda reminds me The Scarlet Letter’s Hester Prynne. But instead of branding her with an “A” I guess they’d brand her with a “B” just like Obama’s Rapper and Hip Hop friends who call our mothers, sisters and daughters bitches and hoes. Disgusting. There’s no one more vicious than these bastards who would humiliate this girl and the Palin family. I feel a spiritual bond with Sarah Palin and her family. I hope she senses it tonight. By the millions we should serve as a mantle of protection and support. I hope she draws strength from us.
didn’t rush predict that the brutus’s would be in our own party?
No joke: Ditch Murphy - good judgement.
Sarah Heath Palin [young, conservative, hot] over Kay Bailey Hutchinson [old, liberal, wrinkled] - more good judgement.
2 for 2 so far.
And speaking of old, liberal, and wrinkled - Peggy's gettin' a little long in the tooth herself.
Shower.
What did you say about KB?
Right after Palin was picked, someone on FR said how Democrat woman will react negatively. I responded to the post that Republican Country Club women (and men) will also react negatively. To these snobbish women (and men) in the club house, Palin is simply some inferior redneck from the boonies. Palin is not a regular of their smart cocktail parties and overstuffed dinners on lobster tails and champagne kirs. I have worked around these superficial vulgar types too much to have any respect for them any longer.
McCain is losing independents right now, and even if he pulls close to even among independents hell need some Dems.
Theres no evidence yet that Palin is helping with that. Pawlenty would have helped."
Ridiculous.
I didn't see this link to the actual youtube comment posted, but if it was, here it is again.
From another thread by swarthyguy:
Commentators who are saying: "What is McCain thinking? Palin's 17-year old daughter is pregnant, he must have known that, so his vetting is criminally negligent."
Gentlemen, gentlemen. Take a deep breath. If you have any familiarity with US evangelicals, said to constitute 1 in 4 US voters, you will see that Palin's daughter's being preggers is worth several million votes! People seem to think that evangelicals are some kind of super-up-tight moralists who will say "Oh My Granny's Green Galoshes, the Palin's kid is preggers and I will not vote McCain-Palin". If people bothered to actually talk to evangelicals instead of labeling them as IQ retards, they would find that the Palin family's firm support of their daughter and their determination they will help her through this difficult time and if neccessary help her bring up the child in the event the father shirks his responsibilities is something that will put the great majority of evangelicals over the moon. Yes, of course they don't approve of unwed moms. But gentlemen, this is America in the year of our Lord 2008. Everyone but everyone no matter what their political opinions has babies without getting married. The real sin, the absolutely unforgivable sin from an evangelical's view is if the Palin girl had had an abortion. Mr. McCain would have not just dead in the water the minute people found that out, he would be sinking without time to send an SOS.
Add to this that Ms. Palin - or should we say Mrs. Palin - chose to have her fifth child knowing he had Down's, and thus commit her family to a lifetime of caring for the child, when she could have quietly had an abortion, is something the evangelicals - and liberals who oppose abortion, look very fondly at the Governor. "Liberals who oppose abortion" - got you on that, didn't we? You thought all liberals support unrestricted abortion? No they don't! These people may oppose the banning of abortion, but they know what a horrible choice it is for the parents, and it's likely they will respect someone who could have had an abortion but chose not to.
Now think again: the lady has impeccable, impeccable right wing credentials. She is a bona fide supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and people, please don't make the mistake of underestimating the damage the NRA can do to your candidate if s/he is against gun rights. She opposes abortion, and on this she leads by example: she has five kids. She thinks of herself first as a mom and a wife, then of herself as Madam Governor or whatever. And, people, here is the icing on the cake: in an election where everyone speaks of standing up for the common man, she is blue collar! And the icing on the icing: she is a woman!
Stoopid Peggy Stoopid Mike.
Giving the Irish a bad name.
Gallup currently has Obama leading among independents 44% to 41%. He was up by almost 8% a few weeks ago.
Other polls have had Obama ahead among independents by higher margins.
First rule of microphones: if the mic is there, the mic is on.
Corollary to first rule: especially if you bash, or are, a Republican.
I guess she'll now blame it on the rabid right wingers like Fowler did, or blame it on the breakfast, lunch, and dinner that Michael Moore blamed it on...when he had his midnight snack.
AAAH, Peggy did you not learn from Jessie’s open mike? Now go beg for forgiveness and sin no more.
Never post while drinking...
He probably wants her toes...
I think she has a point. Palin was picked partly because of her appeal to Democratic women. It’s possible that’s not going to materialize, given the partisan media’s ability to shape the public’s perception of her.
I personally think that the Bush team blew it. Peggy was pasionately for Bush. They should have had her in the loop, in some capacity.
Since then, many of us have observed her...how shall I put it...her cynicism.
Is this the same Mike Murphy who ran Bob Dole in 96? HAHAHA, what a loser.
