McCain arrives (in St Paul), greets Palin daughter, father-to-be

Sarah Palin, the Republicans' surprise choice for the vice-presidential slot on the presidential ticket, will go before her party's national convention and her fellow Americans tonight and make her first major address since presumptive presidential nominee John McCain chose her for the No. 2 spot.

Meanwhile, McCain flew into the Twin Cities, arriving about noon at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. He was met on the tarmac by among others his wife, Cindy, and Palin and her family.

That included Palin's pregnant teenage daughter, Bristol, and father-to-be Levi Johnston. McCain gave Bristol numerous hugs, patted Johnston on the arm and spoke with the couple longer than any of the others in the greeting line.

Palin, the first-term Alaska governor, will accept her party's nomination at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul starting at about 9:30 p.m. CDT, said McCain campaign manager Rick Davis, noting that "I'm sure everybody is excited about" what she has to say.

In a humorous nod to the talkative ways of an earlier speaker, Davis said that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's turn at the podium earlier in the evening might back up the schedule a bit on Day 3 of the four-day convention.

OK, John McCain is in town.

I'm hoping for some political red meat tonight.

Comments or opinions - anyone?

The hurricane having spared the liberals’ holy city of New Orleans, McCain will be able to drop the humble pie tone and give a partisan speech that lays out the differences between him and Obama in stark terms. He should attack on all fronts.

****Fished in****

Republicans never run overtime in convention speeches. They are going to "run late" tonight to create maximum buildup for Gov. Palin's speech, and make sure that people tuning in just to hear her get to hear some other people trashing Barack Obama. This is Convention Management 101. Good move by Rick Davis to sell it this way.

"Comments or opinions - anyone?"

The 3 day rolling averages of both the Rasmussen and Gallup polls have Obama trending downward. Obama peaked on Saturday and began trending downward Sunday and Monday. Those three days were his recent highs and as the 3 day rolling averages for those polls move away from those days expect to see the race tighten back up and possibly McCain taking the lead by Friday or over the weekend.

Good picture of Bristol Palin and Levi at the link. Very hands on, supportive McCain talking with the ‘kids’.

I think she needs to be gracious and confident, lay out her record and experience and what she can bring to the table, and why McCain should be the President. I do not think she should give a speech like Fred did last night.
I loved his speech, and it was perfect for him, but it would not come across well for Palin to say things like that because she needs to introduce herself to the country.

Overheard on the tarmac:

McCAIN: "Don't worry, kids. We're going knock the Obama campaign's teeth down their throat--ice hockey style."

Odd angle for a photo. I normally like to take pictures of people’s faces.

Yeah, it should be fine.

The kid almost looks like he’s trying to pull away from McCain.

He’s probably thinking “McCain’s gonna wind up and lay me out on the tarmac for what I did”.

They should back Sarah into the 11:00 PM hour on the East Coast so that she runs over the local news broadcasts. Imagine Joe and Judy Democrat turning on their nightly propaganda fix and seeing Sarah Palin instead...

Since the MSM can't get enough of these kids - they need some 'in your face' action.

To put icing on the cake for the MSM creeps - I'd plan a White House wedding!!!!!

Well, I can tell you what! This ol’ gal is fighin’ back tears right now at just knowing what class and example John McCain has demonstrated by his warm welcome and exchange with the Palin daughter and boyfriend, family, etc. Now that is first class indeed!
