McCain: Pushback on Palin hard and early today
Newsday ^ | September 3, 2008 | John Riley

You could see this coming a mile away:

With Palin scheduled to speak tonight, the McCain campaign comes out swinging early -- attacking the media for unfair treatment of its nominee, and promising an ad that will say Palin is more qualified than Obama.

In one e-mail, the campaign castigates the New York Times for a (Tuesday) story reporting that Palin was a member of the splinter Alaska Independence Party in the 1990s, based on what turned out to be an erroneous statement by one of the party's leaders. The party has secessionist and Christianist links, according to various accounts. Palin's husband was a member according to Alaska voting records, but not Palin herself.

McCain: "What kind of operation are the editors at theTimes running?"

Also, Politico's Mike Allen this morning reprints a long McCain attack on media coverage hitting MSNBC, CNN and others, promising that “the McCain campaign will launch a television ad directly comparing Governor Palin’s executive experience as a governor who oversees 24,000 state employees, 14 statewide cabinet agencies and a 10 billion dollar budget to Barack Obama’s experience as a one-term junior Senator from Illinois” and “a forward-leaning effort to counter the shameless smears that have prevailed during Governor Palin’s introduction to the American voter.”

Yes, a truthful ad with a nice sprinkling of irony is a good idea.

Grief, if I move to Alaska, I will probably join the AIP.

I agree. Alaskans want drilling and energy independence. The effete liberal establishment on the coasts don't and inject themselves into the affairs of Alaskans. If I lived in Alaska, I'd probably push for succession too.

If any other state, say, New York or Massachusetts, was subject to the same whims of environmental wackos as are Alaskans, the citizens of that state would likewise revolt.

This is the John McCain who asks if they are over target and ‘bombs away’ which was part of the McCain attraction for years.

And we've got to fly wing...this is our chance to herd these Marxist cretins into the caves - and then seal the entrance.

I know what it’s for. And I still don’t like it.

Fixed that.

The same one that has been trying to destroy the Bush administration (and this country) for the past 8 years. Get used to it John. You are an evil republican now not a maverick...

I suspect he's caught on to the idea that he loses at PC poker.

Awesome, thanks! Now when I rub it in my friend’s faces they will immediately run to their blogs and find some other lie to believe in, but at least I will keep them busy ;-)

Nope, you'll lose by definition. Telling lies requires only a little imagination, but finding the truth usually invloves effort.

And I still don’t like it.

I know it sucks, but hate the game not the player. The spammers cause us all problems because they suck.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
Hmmm. Some people say it’s the other way around.

They may not have succeeded on this one, but it was on the list. I copy/pasted what i thought were some of the more interesting items.

You seem to have missed my point. I was referring to the rightwing populist tradition which insists that the entire Leftwing movement is a front for the "establishment" (the Rockefellers, Wall Street, Ivy League, the Ford Foundation, etc.). It is certainly true that today's conservative heartland was the radical socialist populist heartland in the late nineteenth century (when the "Bible-thumpers" wanted to nationalize the railroads and limit the amount of private property one could own) while today's elite Left are the cultural/political (and perhaps literal) descendants of the old coastal Republicans who voted for William McKinley.

As an old Republican myself who traces his ideology back to Alexander Hamilton I am not naturally biased in the populists' favor and I take no pleasure in repeating the theory, but there may be something to it, at least in part.

I can’t wait to see the ads, and to see Governor Palin’s speech. Every time you turn around there’s another senseless attack on her, that makes you scratch your head and ask “Why did you consider that newsworthy... is that all you got?”

Either that or there’s another despicable low-blow attack on her daughter, or on her new son.

One moment, I am laughing about how desperate they are in trying to create scandals from the tiniest irrelevant details of her life.

The next moment I find myself steaming mad at their disgusting attempts to destroy her daughter.
