"Beltway Boys " - WSJ Editorial on Trashing of Palin
Wall Street Journal ^ | Sept 3, 2008 | editorial

Posted on 09/03/2008 2:28:40 AM PDT by The Raven

...[snip]...

Here is a sampler of media comment on Governor Palin this week:

- Eleanor Clift, the McLaughlin Group: "If the media reaction is anything, it's been literally laughter in many places across newsrooms."

- Sally Quinn, Newsweek: "It is a political gimmick . . . I find it insulting to women, to the Republican party, and to the country."

- E.J. Dionne, Washington Post: "Palin is, if anything, less qualified for the vice presidency (and the presidency) than [Harriet] Miers was for the court. But there is one big difference: Palin passes all the right-wing litmus tests."

- Maureen Dowd, New York Times: "They have a tradition of nominating fun, bantamweight cheerleaders from the West."

- Ruth Marcus, Washington Post: "But as a parent in the media, I also know that the Palins assumed this risk. Anyone who watched coverage of the Bush twins' barroom exploits knew that the avert-your-eyes stance toward candidates' children has its limits."

- Charlie Cook, Beltway pundit, on PBS's "Charlie Rose": "I had a friend that had a young person tell them that they had three interviews to get a job as a server at Ruby Tuesday! So this is like putting a whole -- for someone that hasn't played on a national -- Geraldine Ferraro had more -- Dan Quayle had undergone more scrutiny, had played on a bigger stage than this. This is putting an enormous risk on someone he didn't know. And he has to just pray that it works!"

Palin a Lightweight? Isn’t it time we DEMAND to see lObama’s and his wife’s SAT and LSAT scores. But they’re embargoed. Truth is, both Obama and his wife are themselves lightweight token hires.

the idea is to daily trash them.

Why? Why contribute to their already overblown sense of self-importance? They are nobodies. We are the Free Republic.

They way it works where these people work is that if they don’t have liberal bias, they don’t have jobs.

You are feeding out of the devil's hand on this one my FRiend. Be careful of your rationalizations for playing the evil man's (and woman's) game. You want to trash them. This is part of the test. Do the opposite. Pray for them as you fight for Sarah and pray for her as well.

Speak the truth for Sarah, but there is no need to become like the wretched tools these power players have become. It is not flesh and blood we will fight, but principalities. You too do not need to be played as a tool for evil. Rise above and do what you can to focus on doing something to bring light, but not destroy yourself in the process.

You see the evil that has gone on here, God is intervening, until that time that His intervention is clear, let's have faith and think of spiritually positive things we can do as God has already overcome the world. Let's turn to him and defend her honor and speak her truth. We do not need to give these people any press or site hits either.

I am sorry to be so heavy handed but it has become very, very clear to me that we are not dealing with flesh in this battle, this is purely spiritual. Instead of bowing out as the right has in the past we need to have faith, pray, and work on Godly action. Let's not feed into the hand that is trying to turn what is good and righteous into wrong. I understand your anger and frustration. In the last 24 hours, I finally realized the barometer has gone way up on this election. Even this election is no longer about flesh. It is a major spiritual battle. I can guess at maybe why, but I do not fully know what is going on,, I just know it is huge. Pray my FRiend if you are a believer. :-). And take right action.

“...The attacks on Palin mirror the problems that tens of millions of American women find in their everyday life. To attack them would be to condemn themselves and their own choices in their own lives. Watching Palin standing strong and McCain backing her up will be inspiring to many of them. And the identification of the Democrats with the attacks on her will turn them off.” - Dick Morris

The attacking has always worked in the past. I don’t think it will happen this time. There are only so many undecided voters at this point. Each party needs to fire up their own. McCain has lit a fire, and Palin is fanning a flame in decent people.

"Yeah I know.....but we haven’t ruined their career as a biased journalist."

I will have to say that FR member "Buckhead" was a key figure in exposing the fraud against Pres. Bush by CBS anchor Dan Rather in the 2004 election. Good chance Rather wouldn't have had to resign if it wasn't for "Buckhead"'s detective work on phoney anti-Bush documents. Rather ruined himself with his own hubris, but FR was an important factor in his downfall.

I have been thinking the same thing since Palin was announced. Actually its been in the back of my mind throughout the primaries but now, with the maniacal media reaction to Palin it seems we are beyond the normal controversies and battles of previous elections. Something is brewing......

Prayer is fine as is having faith but in the end we must fight within the arena in which we find ourselves. Fight fire with fire and an eye for an eye also apply here and we have to keep in mind who it is we are trying to reach with our defense of Sara Palin. The target of the lib media is the undecided voters, Independents and disappointed Hillary voters. We also need to reach these folks and we cannot do it with prayer alone. Keep in mind the left and the media hacks (same thing, I know) are all over Palin because there isn't a thing they can do about John McCain. He is a 30 year veteran and what ever there is to know about him is already in the public domain.

” ... As Mr. Palin has celebrated his wife’s political victories, she has returned the favor by cheering on her husband in his chief hobby: snow-machine racing. He is a four-time winner of the Tesoro Iron Dog, a grueling, 2,000-mile race over ice and snow”

Now we know......it’s the First Dude’s competitors.

Two thoughts -

Eleanor Clift has always provided the comic relief on the McLaughlin Report.

When will 88 year old Helen Thomas finally qualify for her KGB pension?

I don’t think we have to trash them, but we do have to resist them and call them on every lie. One of Bush’s problems was that nobody ever called the press on their combination of lies and biased coverage; he was way too polite to them and too slow in responding to their attacks.

Obviously, if we respond to every nutcase attack, we’ll never have time to do anything else. The overwhelming majority of media people are left-wing and regard their media power as simply a way to advance the agenda of the left; we’re heavily outnumbered. While we have to choose our battles, we do have to fight back, but it shouldn’t be on the level of “trashing.”
