Pelosi Visits Hiroshima A-Bomb Memorial
Tuesday, September 2, 2008 1:30 AM
HIROSHIMA, Japan U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday became the highest-ranking serving American official to pay respects at the memorial site of the world's first atomic bomb attack.
Democrat Pelosi is in Japan for a two-day gathering of top legislators from the Group of Eight industrialized countries.
On Tuesday morning, she and the other G-8 representatives visited Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park before heading into an all-day meeting.
No sitting U.S. president or vice president has ever visited Hiroshima.

I wouldn’t expect any less from Nazi. Anytime there is an opportunity to trash America, a DemocRAT will be there.
63 years later, no third nuclear weapon has ever been deployed offensively. All hail the most perfect deterrent ever designed!
You're right, but wouldn't it have been great if little Nancy DAlesandro could have visited the city as a five year old on August 6th, 1945?
Was she in China or Iwo Jima at the gravesites of the millions of Americans, Chinese, Burmese, Filipinos who were killed by the Japanese in WWII?
Of course not, she showed up to trash the US and make us look bad, like her surgery-repaired face did when she met with Syria without GWB’s approval.
Stitch face just wanted a photo op.
As usual.
If I was president, I wouldn’t visit either. I’d be too tempted to turn to someone and say “there’s more where that came from”.
Some young Japanese Reporters came to Tracy Calif, to interview a man who was a prisoner of war in a POW Slave Labor camp around the bay near Nagasaki He witnessed the blast, but was far enough away to not be harmed.
The Japanese reporters came with a Bias that it was a crime to Bomb Japan, but after asking many questions during the interview, He asked one of them if they still felt that way?
The reporter said “No I can see now that it was necessary” and probably saved thousands of Lives”
That is a True Story.
I wrote “Remember Bataan and Singapore” in the guestbook at the memorial.
Wonder if anyone told her that a democrat president (best one in the 20th century too) ordered the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Three days later on Aug. 9, 1945, the U.S. dropped a nuclear bomb on the city of Nagasaki, killing about 80,000 people. Japan surrendered on Aug. 15, ending World War II.
IIRC, I read in William Manchester's book American Caesar that General MacArthur estimated that there would be one million Allied casualties in the event of an invasion of the Japanese home islands. Manchester also noted that MacArthur's casualty estimates in prior battles had been eerily accurate.
Bump for later reading
She was there as a representative of the G-8 nations, each of which did the same as our representative did. Don’t you think it might have been a bit damaging to our relations with Japan to have refused to honor their dead? It’s not trashing America to show sympathy for the thousands who were killed. I mean, it was Japan’s fault they were killed, but we can still feel sorry for those who had to die for Japan’s mistake.
But she could ask to visit the island where the Japanese soldiers beheaded the American flyers after they were rescued at sea.
Too bad Stretch Pelosi’s parents werent there the day the high temperature reached 10,000 degrees.
