Ms. Quinn, you wrote (in relevant part): "My first reaction was shock. Then anger. John McCain chose a running mate simply because she is a woman and one who appealed to the Republican's conservative evangelical base. Now, with news that Palin's 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, McCain's pick may not even find support among "family values" voters.
It has happened before, of course. Geraldine Ferraro was chosen as the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 1984 because she was a woman, but that was 24 years ago. I thought we were past this. Apparently not. McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate is a cynical and calculated move. It is a choice made to try to win an election. It is a political gimmick. And it's very high risk. I find it insulting to women, to the Republican party, and to the country."

You also spoke of a 'cynical and calculated move' as well as a choice 'made to try to win an election'. The nerve of that man McCain making a decision that he believed would help him win the election. Do you suggest he make a choice designed for him to lose? Please, Ms. Quinn, you of all people are not naive; do not assume that your readers are.
Now that you remind me, I believe that the arena 'of a cynical and calculated move' is one with which you have personal experience. I seem to remember that some 40 years ago there was a young, good looking, ambitious blond named Sally. She had a Boss named Ben. Sally entered a romantic relationship with Boss Ben that resulted in a number of events: Boss Ben's divorce, Sally's promotions, Ben's and Sally's marriage to one another, Sally's inclusion to Washington's A-list, pictures (a/k/a publicity) appearing every other week in pseudo-glamour rags such as W, Vanity Fair, etc.
In closing, Ms. Quinn, please exercise more professionalism if you are still a journalist and more Christianity if you are merely a pundit. My parents advised me some 60 years ago of the danger of people who threw rocks and lived in glass houses. Good day and God bless you.
Brilliant response
It's not as simple as that.
Isn't she the woman who is currently in the highest executive ranks within the GOP? That is, elected governor of a state?
How many women Governors are there? How many are Republican?

This shows just how much the left does not understand “values voters”. I think they are dwelling on this the pregnancy issue because they think it's a sign of hypocrisy. The irony is it demonstrates without doubt the Palin pro-life values.
WOW! Thank you, Mark.
(and the Sally and Ben memory is a zinger)
Pretty much a rant and a series of cheap, low-life shots from Ms. Quinn.
She states that the VP will be “distracted” by her grandchild, while also saying how “insulted” she is by the choice, and how “insulted” all women should be.
Rationality seems to have departed completely from the MSM.
Uh -DUH!!!! Isn't that the point?
The secular lefties have such a warped and self-serving perception of 'social conservatives' that they actually think this Bristol Palin thing is going to *hurt* the GOP ticket.
Morons.
The fact that she was shocked and then angered is just one more indication Gov. Palin was a good choice. Thanks for the vindication, Sally.
I find it HILARIOUS they are screaming bloody murder about her “being chose because she’s a woman” when you ask the leftists who they were voting for, they would say “Hillary” and when asked why, they would say “Because she’s a woman”.
God, what a bunch of rotten hypocrites!!!!!!
For those that have good "family values" and still cannot support Palin's daughter, to hell with you. Talk about Christian values.
In my 35 years in the workplace (and a male) I have witnessed sexual discrimination 4 times from executives. Each and every time it was a woman executive discriminating and other men, including me, had to defend the woman being discriminated against. 2 times involved women going out on pregnancy leave, 1 time with a woman the woman executive thought “might” get pregnant, and 1 time because a woman was thought to be “too friendly” to males at work.
People in the media are disappointed about Romney not being the vp pick so they could be bashing him about his Mormon religion and how many houses he has.
These people are sickening, I’m so disgusted at the lot of them. No one talks about Obama being distracted by his young children, now do they.
‘Brilliant response”
I second that.
The choice of Gov. Palin has the Democrats TERRIFIED!
Here is the strong woman they claim they have wanted all along. She is accomplished, confident and she has it all, the family, the career, the looks....
They can’t take her out, so they’ll work on taking her out through her 17 year old teenage daughter. These people are the lowest scum I’ve ever seen.
Now we have a woman with children running for VP
You and some Democrats are attacking this woman in a way you want her to go home and put a apron on
Is that what the women's movement was about being " progressive".
Last Wednesday at Tim’s funeral mass at [Holy]Trinity Church in Georgetown (Jack Kennedy’s church), communion was offered. I had only taken communion once in my life, at an evangelical church. It was soon after I had started “On Faith” and I wanted to see what it was like. Oddly I had a slightly nauseated sensation after I took it, knowing that in some way it represented the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Last Wednesday I was determined to take it for Tim, transubstantiation notwithstanding. I’m so glad I did. It made me feel closer to him. And it was worth it just to imagine how he would have loved it. After I began “On Faith,” Tim started calling me “Sister Sal” instead of “Miss Sal.”
Other fine quotes from Sally Quinn.

I thought Gov. Palin’s achievements and ability to juggle a high-power career, marriage and children was what the “feminist movement” was all about. Apparently that doesn’t apply to all women, only women whose politics the feminists approve of.
Hypocrites.
As Rush would say, Only the ugly feminists do we give favor to
They really know NOTHING about evangelicals or conservatives. They think we beat our daughters for getting pregnant and then ship them off to Aunt Bertha to hide for the rest of the pregnancy.
That was a real curve ball Senator McCain, and I am enjoying watching all these columnists and pundits swing and miss.
