Quite a while ago I came across an autobiographical book by Joan Rivers. I had never been a big fan, after reading her book I was very impressed by her determination.
In one memorable scene, after bombing horribly at a Jewish country club where her parents were members, she fled home and went to her room. After a while she could hear her parents come out onto the patio below and begin a conversation. She overheard her father saying: "What can we do? She has no talent!".
Somehow, even after this and similar debacles, she forced herself to keep trying for many years, eventually developing recognized talent and achieving success.
