Rasmussen: Obama 51 - McCain 45 (from 49-46 yesterday)
Rasmussen ^ | 09/02/2008 | Rasmussen

Posted on 09/02/2008 6:40:33 AM PDT by ubaldus

Obama is up by 6 in today's Rasmussen tracker, by 5 without leaners (48 - 43). It is obviuos that McCain had a very bad polling day yesterday, something like 42-53 daily sample or even worse.

Some of it may be statistical noise, but it appears that all the noise around Palin selection is starting to hurt.

First, the Gallup numbers usually are not released until 1 the earliest. Second, McCain had a huge day on Friday. That has now dropped off the 3 day rolling average. That explains a lot of this. Also, holiday weekends for some reason are always lower for Republicans.

Thank you.. glad to see there are still a few voices of reason around these parts.

This poll is meaningless. It simply shows a post convention bounce, that was merely a few percentage points. By next Tuesday when the RNC convention bounce is in the numbers we’ll know where things stand.

The dems brought their 80% back home.. it took their entire convention to do it. McCain is looking at 80% support pre convention at this point. Trending up to the convention had been solidly and slowly toward McCain, there is nothing in this poll that suggests anything that disrupts that general trend.

By next tuesday we’ll know where things stand.

The MSM prefers to pursue Republican "scandals" rather than Democratic crimes.

Putting Another Scandal Behind Them
Apology from Michael Kennedy for 'serious mistakes' attempts to end latest family scandal

BOSTON (AllPolitics, July 10) -- The Kennedy family is trying to get its latest scandal behind it, an effort capped by Michael Kennedy's plea on Tuesday for forgiveness for "serious mistakes" he has committed. Kennedy had been accused of having an affair with his family's underage baby sitter.

As for Dad being DUI, well, .... a single preggie daughter and Mom’s not around and too busy?

I have since learned that the newspaper was wrong, and thus I was dumb for even repeating it.

The hubby's infraction occurred 22 years ago, waaaay past any time it should be of signifigance.

I kinda feel dumb for even relying on a newspaper headline, because I have worked at newspapers in the past and I KNOW how they used headlines to distort.

“Say what you want about Romney, but the man is squeaky clean.... having been vetted multiple times by the national media, and through scrutiny of the leftist nutjobs.”

Yes ... he is someone I ADMIRE.

I would have prefered him over Sarah Palin.

Okay, I believe you. ;-)

So you think a 4-6 point post convention deficit is likely. Which is what we're seeing now. So you see no bounce from the GOP convention. Perhaps you're right.

However, I disagree. And I see less reason to worry now than I did last week. McCain/Palin raised $10 million over a holiday weekend. That will enable them to run even more very effective ads. And the energizing of the base by the Palin pick equates to a much stronger ground game. THAT worried me more than any national polling data regarding an electoral vote.

The pregnancy of Palin's daughter is gonna hurt McCain ticket..... simply because a teen pregnancy goes against everything the Republican Party stands for.

Yes, because politicians live perfect lives. What kind of idiocy is this? LIFE happens, get a helmet and get over it already.

If anything it makes her and her family more human.

I checked out the Trentonian link and you are right about the AP article. The Trentonian headlined DUI recently. They mention DUI in the front page picture caption and then halfway through the article on inside page they barely mention the charge, don't give any details, but merely use it in the the phrase "her husband's old DUI." That shows you AP techniques. Stay away from the Trentonian. They burned you badly.

Do some homework and post the editor's address. I'll write a letter too. Maybe others will join in. Freeper regards.

The rats and MSM just threw up the kitchen sink.

I hope Palin and Family have the will to stick this out. I wish there was something more I could do to help. The gutter crap I have witnessed in the past few days regarding Palin's daughters

Calm down folks. First, sample is skewed slightly over holiday weekend. As most single people, “poor” etc..stay home versus families and folks that actually work travel. In old days no good pollster would poll over holidays and also recognize sample is troubled on Saturdays for many of the same reasons. Lets look at poll Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Then we will know where we stand. Also, all the good stuff and debates will matter..Still alot of Ammo. There are about 15% of electorate that will sway. Where they end up Nov. 4th is what counts..

It's not time to rearrange the deck chairs. The absolute worst thing we could do right now is panic.

But then it wouldn't be Free Republic, would it? :)

I'm glad to see some here are looking at more than mildly fluctuating poll numbers. That $10 million is NOT to be underestimated, and there is really no tangible way at this point (to my knowledge) to measure the effect Palin's announcement had on energizing the base and its associated ground game. Other than I can say it was definitely a positive for the GOP ticket.

Folks need to accept that we're likely going to have another close race. WAY too many last week were chirping about a McCain/Palin blowout. If they're ultimately right, great. But to plan on that will only lead to depression and, as you said, panic when the inevitable bad days come.
