Live coverage...levee is failing 350 feet of wall falling apart as we speak...
That's what they were doing after Katrina. They're doing it now.
(/sarc).

A corner of the Industrial Canal Levee shows just how close waters from Hurricane Gustav are in New Orleans, Monday, Sept. 1, 2008. This section of the levee portects the lower 9th Ward. 4:33 p.m. ET, 9/1/08
If the levee is in another Parish, it is not the responsibility of New Orleans. They screw up enough in their own Parish, they do not control other Parishes.
is this actually NO or somewher eelse.
Not sure how much the Corps had to do with his levee...... The Parish President was interviewed and said they had added a little to the levee in the past couple of years and planted grass. With overtopping he expects the soil to erode.
From NOLA: http://www.nola.com/hurricane/index.ssf/2008/09/plaquemines_parish_levee_threa.html
Plaquemines Parish workers have been furiously working on the levee along the Clearwater Canal since mid-afternoon. Floodwaters spilling over the top of the levee threaten the Braithwaite Park subdivision.
The canal is on the east bank of the parish. The subdivision is off Louisiana 39. The 8-foot-tall levee is a parish levee that is not part of the federal levee protection system, officials said.
Officials said the same levee is also being overtopped further south at Scarsdale.
So fire them and then what? When I read posts like yours I cringe. Its easy to throw stones but we're dealing with hundreds of miles of levees and huge forces of nature. It is a pretty difficult assignment. So I'd back off until more facts are known. A failure of this particular levee is not as bad as what happened with Katrina.
So you’re telling me that a flood control levee (regardless of who was building it) didn’t have to get permits and inspection by COE? Apparently the rules are very different there than in my state. In my state, anytime we have to work within the high water line of a body of water, we need permits from COE, NMF, and Dept of Wildlife. They then have to inspect the results. You’re right, I have no idea what I’m talking about here. I just work on and around water. I’ll go away now.
Ya’ll just keep paying your taxes.

On the West Bank across from NO in Plaquemines Parish. Sorta SE of NO.
Plaquemines Parish levee overtopped, subdivision threatened

Plaquemines Parish officials are trying to open the Caenarvon Mississippi River diversion to ease pressure on a levee that is being overtopped in Braithwaite.
Since power is out in the area, however, they are trying to open the diversion gates manually.
Plaquemines Parish workers have been furiously working on the levee along the Clearwater Canal since mid-afternoon. Floodwaters spilling over the top of the levee threaten the Braithwaite Park subdivision.
The levee has not breached, but authorities are not hopeful.
“We don’t think our efforts are going to be successful so we need to get everyone out now,’’ Parish President Billy Nungesser said.
Officials said opening the diversion would allow some of the floodwater to be diverted into the Mississippi River, which is lower.
Meanwhile, St. Bernard Parish is sending firefighters, deputies and other workers to the area to help with the efforts.
The canal is on the east bank of the parish. The subdivision is off Louisiana 39. The 8-foot-tall levee is a parish levee that is not part of the federal levee protection system, officials said.
Officials said the same levee is also being overtopped further south at Scarsdale.

wrong Scarsdale sadly....
AND its been pointed out that this levee was built by NAGIN.
How did Nagin build this Levee? It’s not in New Orleans or even Orleans Parish. It’s across the river in Plaquemines Parish and was built basically to protect a subdivision from rain water not storm surge water or so the Parish President has stated on CNN, etc.
On the West Bank across from NO in Plaquemines Parish. Sorta SE of NO.
S/B
On the East Bank not West Bank, my bad.
“...levee was built by NAGIN!”
This is in Plaquemines Parish to the south of New Orleans. Ray Nagin has nothing to do with this.
I read the headline and then I read the thread, what an amazing disconnect. The reporter should be canned.
fired you say first the democrats took the before katrina money and didn’t use it on the levees, then they took the after katrina money and didn’t use it on the levees..new orleans is corrupt, honey bun, through and through and the po po prolly want anther vaca in vegas right now.......
Just looks like water coming under a floodgate in the wall — and it looks like they are doing well.
There must be a different leak somewhere else.
I believe current protocol requires you to post a photo of School Bus's.
the Drive Bys are just SALIVATING at ANY levie breaking.
There is real disappointment in the media
Nobody mentions that the state and feds ousted the incompetent locals from the decision making process.
