Obama's gun ban rhetoric: For it before being against it, now no longer for it
Washington Times ^ | Friday, August 29, 2008 | John R. Lott, Jr.

Sen. Barack Obama's campaign just won't let the gun issue rest. Mr. Obama and his campaign surrogates continue to assure gun owners that he is on their side, and it appears to be paying off. John McCain only leads Mr. Obama among hunters by 14 percentage points, just about half the 27-point lead that President Bush held over John Kerry in 2004. If Mr. McCain had a similar lead, he would be ahead in most polls, particularly in many battle ground states.

Yet, despite all the Democratic claims to the contrary, Mr. Obama is undoubtedly the most anti-gun candidate ever nominated by a major party for president.

A couple of weeks ago, Brian Schweitzer, Montana Democratic governor, told national reporters that Mr. Obama "Ain't ever going to take your gun away." An Obama adviser, Stanford Law Professor Larry Lessig, said recently on Hugh Hewitt's national radio show that "I think that he has always been an individual rights person on the Second Amendment." Another advisor, Professor Cass Sunstein at Harvard, told Time Magazine in June: "Obama has always expressed a belief that the Second Amendment guarantees a private right to bear arms." The list goes on.

The day the Supreme Court struck down Washington, D.C.'s gun ban, Mr. Obama claimed the court's decision merely ratified his own position. He told Fox News he had "said consistently that I believe that the Second Amendment is an individual right, and that was the essential decision that the Supreme Court came down on." So, has Mr. Obama consistently supported individuals' rights to own guns and opposed the D.C. handgun ban? . . .

John McCain only leads Mr. Obama among hunters by 14 percentage points,

It's been my experience that among the gun-owning public, hunters seem to be the most ill-informed about politics and their rights.

No self-respecting gun-owner should EVER vote for a Democrat, IMHO.

Stanford Law Professor Larry Lessig, & Professor Cass Sunstein at Harvard, two left wing professors, are not carrying enough integrity between them that I would believe a word they say.

If Obama wins, gun owners won’t be for him in 2012, not if losing their guns sways their voting habits.

In 1998, he backed a ban on the sale of all semiautomatic guns (a ban that would encompass the vast majority of guns sold in the U.S.)

What did he say the other night at his big speech about "upholding the 2nd Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals"?

If that didn't forewarn a gun ban, then I don't know what would.

Before any group can take over a country and take their freedoms, the first thing that has to happen is to take away their guns. Obama is for taking taxes from Americans and giving it to the UN to fight poverty all over the world. He seems to think that Americans are so rich that we can support the world, even when they will not work and had rather to fight than to grow crops and feed themselves.
Look up Senate Bill 2433. Americans are now so deeply in debt that each American, man, woman and child, owe approximately $175,000. Obama has poor judgement and does not love this country. Sure he promises change, but change that we can not live with.

“the first thing that has to happen is to take away their guns”

Obama’s plan (Hill’s, too). Not plan A. His plan period.

They say that there is "truth in anagrams"...well, when you consider the background and qualifications of:

Obama Biden

You get the anagram, "A Badmen Bio"

Even funnier, the anagram for "Joe Biden" is "I Need Job"

A couple of weeks ago, Brian Schweitzer, Montana Democratic governor, told national reporters that Mr. Obama "Ain't ever going to take your gun away."

Governor Schweitzer is utterly deluded: not only has Senator Obama come out himself for a total ban on all semiautomatics, his choice for Vice President, Senator Biden, is the author of the Assault Weapons Ban.

That ban would still be in effect if we had not managed to get a sunset provision, and were lucky enough to have both a Republican House, Senate, and presidency when the sunset period came along. Today, we don't have a Republican Senate or House. If Senator Obama is elected, you will see an onslaught against the Second Amendment like nothing since at least 1993, when the Democrats ran things and the Democrats got the Assault Weapons and the Brady Bill passed.

You are correct sir.... The 2nd is NOT about duck hunting, yet I know a few duck and deer hunters who don’t even own a 9mm let alone a .380. I do what preaching I can....

That ban would not have ever been in effect if the sunset provision had not been added, which persuaded Bob Dole (R) to vote FOR it.

What he says is irrelevant. He’s served on a gun-banning lobby group (Joyce Foundation), and 100% of the time has voted to infringe upon 2A rights, while 0% of the time voting to uphold them.

There is not one single case in which he’s voted to protect individuals’ rights. Ever.

Even when that Wilmette guy’s car was stolen and the thug broke into his house in the middle of the night where his kids slept and the guy shot him in self-defense, Hussein voted AGAINST the resolution to prevent him from being charged.

Well, hardly ever.

1998 Illinois gubernatorial race: Candidate #1 favors concealed carry. Candidate #2 is an anti-gun crook (he eventually gets prosecuted for his well-known corruption in his previous office). I voted for the candidate with the (D) next to his name and had no qualm about doing so.

I agree. And what I am going to add I mostly stole from another Freeper’s tag line, but it applies in spades:

“Barry Obama constitutes a Clear and Present Danger to the constitution of the United States of America”. Period!

If there is a lib House and Senate, (which there is), plus Obama, we are in real trouble. If the 2A goes away. How long until the 1A goes too? I can not beleave there are people out there who would seriously vote for this a&&hole.

If they try to pass anti-2A laws, there is only one answer. I said it earlier.

I think that ALL liberal politicians who are against gun ownership, (and therefore the conatitution), should be the one’s to come around and collect said guns! (Good luck and try to stay very, very low).
