I know you’re kidding, but I hope she doesn’t deliver right before the election, for the sake of the baby. I think she’s only five months along, and by then, she’d only be seven months into her pregnancy.
I read this article with interest, since I lived in Wasilla a few years ago... actually, out on the Palmer-Fishhook Road just north of Trunk Road... so maybe it’s more like Palmer... anyway, I’m familiar with the community some Alaskans have called Stripmallville.
The writer sounds like a visitor steeped in the cynical irony of the Lower 48 who is charmed by what he sees in Wasilla. He doesn’t get it yet that he’s actually seeing the character of the state of Alaska, but I can’t blame him, since through his eyes Wasilla must seem remote and rustic, whereas to those of us living out in the Bush, Wasilla is a crowded little place filled with Wal-Marts and streetlights and fast food and that new Home Depot up on the ridge.
However, read what he’s written closely. He’s charmed by what he sees. That’s because Alaska is what the United States used to be like many decades ago - independent but friendly, moralistic without being intrusive, open-minded but not empty-headed.
That is what Sarah will bring to everyone she sees and everyone she talks to. (And since Alaska is a small place, I have actually talked to and worked with the Palins. It’s not uncommon, since Alaska is actually the world’s biggest small town.) Sarah will charm even those who hate her politics and values. She will show herself to be intelligent and forceful, perhaps even Thatcheresque.
Prepare to be amazed. I like the idea that some are floating of Sarah as Wonder Woman - you know, she does look a lot like Wonder Woman’s secret identity, Diana Prince.
Me too.
Thanks for sharing those insights. It sounds as if by attaining the high standards she sets for herself she will always exceed the cynics’ expectations.
I have heard Sarah Palin described as a combination of Lady Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.
>>>I have heard Sarah Palin described as a combination of Lady Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.<<<
And I’ve seen it with my own eyes in a small room filled with minor-league politicians confronting a major-league leader. Watching her on the Wasilla City Council was a lot like watching Micheal Jordan play during his high school years. You just wait.
OK, the Target in Wasilla opens in October. I say we buy Target gift cards, or (cringe) Walmart, as there's one of those, too. Then we send them off. That way, the Palin family can either use them or donate them to other young mothers. What do you think?
Seriously, eons ago, my sisters and I threw a shower-by-mail for another sister who lived halfway across the country. Every other week (paydays)I collected and mailed off her "baby shower". It had to have been the longest ever baby shower on record!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in many areas there are crisis pregnancy centers who will be more than happy to arrange an adoption and even minimize the mother's out-of-pocket medical expenses. While a girl who foolishly allows herself to become pregnant would still have to suffer some, it is not realistic to expect people to avoid such foolishness if there isn't at least some unpleasant consequence.
I'm a 60+ y o guy, married 30+ yrs. I don't think. It only leads to trouble with SWMBO.
Smart man, well trained! Kudos to your wife! LOL!

Bump...I just posted this, after searching and not finding...of course, Murphy’s Law..but the point is that this is a surprisingly good article from TIME. I think the tide has turned...
Good article.
BTTT!
IIRC, the soon to be VP equivocated on his answer while Mrs. Quayle gave her husband a nasty look then remained resolute saying the child would be born. Period.
The thing many even on this board don't seem to understand is that being Christian doesn't keep us from messing up, but it defines and determines the actions we take once the consequences of our behaviors must be confronted.
Thanks for the bumps and comments.
Likewise. I found the fact that Time let this appear on its site to be encouraging in and of itself.
That is so well said that it warrants repeating.
We ain't perfect. But we try. And, when we screw up, we face the consequences.

Well said.
Be afraid Mr. Biden, be afraid. You 'da moose!
