>>Would it go something like John McCain saying “Fellow Americans, I have selected Sarah Palin as my Vice-Presidential running mate - and by the way, her daughter Bristol is pregnant.”

> No it would be - I couldn’t choose Gov. Palin because she told me she had to take care of her family and State first.

Thanks, Tomas — my point exactly.

I think McCain and Palin have done this election a great disservice by putting themselves — and US — in a very difficult position.

Even if the media could control themselves (HAH!!!) there is very little chance they will be able to focus on Palin’s ability to be VP, and not drool and put the most horrendous, salacious spin on this whole thing. The whole family has to go through this, remember. On top of the pressures of mom running for the 2nd highest office in the land.

And Palin has so much going on now she cannot help but be distracted from campaigning, and then the job of VP should she be fortunate to get it. And, God forbid, President, should McCain not make it through his term.

It simply should not have been her time this time... with a new challenged baby to care for, and a pregnant underage daughter... I mean, honestly, don’t y’all think her plate’s a little full without being the second most powerful person in the most powerful nation on the planet, with a war to win and an economy to energize? And is it fair to her family? I mean, seriously, think about it. No disrespect to a fantastic woman with a lot of potential, but... let’s get real.

You’re making way too much sense. That isn’t going to go over very well.

Do you really think she didn’t talk this over with her family first?

We need a leader like Palin. A chance like this rarely comes. Now we have a young and strong leader who will be in position to unite conservatives. If she’s tough enough to tackle this race, then I’ll respect her that much more.

Okay, let's get real.

What kind of conservative attempts to think for a person, make personal decisions for a person or decide what's best for another person's family, then attempts to persuade other people of the correctness of her opinion?

The answer is, of course, that conservatives don't do it at all.

And there are scads of anti-conservative trolls floating around this forum today. They are the ones bashing McCain for picking this woman as his veep candidate.

They are idiots.

I am pretty sure an old Warrior like McCain knew this was going to come out, AND that he had a counterattack worked out.

Lets see how the Counterattack works.

I agree totally with one very big BUT: I believe that this election may be the last chance we have to keep this country from going down into the dung heap of history. I wasn't a McCain supporter, but I sense McCain knows that and also knew that without energizing the base, his cause would be almost hopeless. And though Mitt and Pawlenty would have been acceptable, it would not be the same. This has gotten the base needed to win the election excited and though I feel for the lady and her family, she was chosen and accepted and now we must move forward to get them elected.

This is really starting to piss me off, and I'm going to yell to make sure some of the thicker people around here get it.

THERE ARE TWO PARENTS IN THIS FAMILY

If she were a single mom you'd have a valid point. She's not, so you don't.

This is simply turning into a stealth father bashing session.

Would anyone be talking this way if it were the father running for this office? Why not?

Are mothers so much more important?

What the hell do think the father will be doing while Sara is off doing important VP type stuff?

Or is a man incapable of taking care of children?

You either believe that or you're suffering from a logical disconnect.

Tell me, why are you, and others like you, completely dismissing the father in this family.

“Even if the media could control themselves (HAH!!!) there is very little chance they will be able to focus on Palin’s ability to be VP, and not drool and put the most horrendous, salacious spin on this whole thing.”

So we are supposed to choose our leaders based on how the media might treat them?

No. It is time for everyone to see the media for exactly what it is, and this situation, in which they clearly, just CANNOT help themselves, does just that. It makes ME crazy angry, but I just have to keep reminding myself how stunningly partisan they are showing themselves to be, and to continue sending my money and my support to Senator McCain, and Gov. Palin.

We all would do well to do the same, unless of course, we are ready to have the media choose OUR leadership.
